That Powerglide is one of the easiest automatics to overhaul.
I don't remember what pressure taps are there, but for sure mainline pressure can be checked and will tell you if the pump is putting out, and what the reg valve is doing. Could there be a torque converter to pump engagement problem? And that could be caused by the incorrect torque converter. Did you hear any strange noises? Lots of things can cause your problem. A broken seal ring. I once had an iron one that had an imperfection that let it break after about 100 miles of use.
The intermittent problem is more like pump cavitation, and is usually caused by low fluid level or gasket or oring leaking for the suction screen. A worn pump housing and or clearance.
Just some ideas. Seal ring problems can be temperature dependant.
