Gasoline/air doesn't have to be an exact ratio to ignite. The lower flammable limit is about 1% (by volume) in air. The upper flammable limit is just over 7% (by volume) in air. This means any mixture above or below these limits won't ignite. It also means any mixture between these limits can ignite if an adequate source of ignition is pesent.
