This is what I think. The resistance of the coils in the fuel gauge itself allows only milliamps to pass to the sender/ground.

Gasoline will explode in a VERY narrow fuel to air range..around 15:1. I'm not a mathematician, so I don't know when this ratio is developed inside the tank as the fuel drains and the atmosphere enters..or if it ever does.

The very bottom line would be to ask yourself how many threads have you seen here describing the horrible carnage caused by the pesky sender igniting the AD/IED. smile
