There's also this fun little fact: Way back when my father was known to weld closed leaks on diesel fuel tanks, while they were full. Sounds idiotic, but top off the tank to minimise fume buildup, seal the filler port, and keep the welds short. Works good, lasts long time, however retarded it may sound.
