I managed too put some scratches across the roof while backing into my yard too load up some old wooden fencing too haul away. not serious but ironic, it is the exact same place and tree that bent the drivers door when a limb caught the top of the door and bent it forward toward the front fender twenty seven years ago.

Painted the parts I cleaned yesterday including the inside of the hood and parts to go with it, dome lamp assembled and wire ran, gas tank back in new wiring ran to sending unit. License plate and tale lamp brackets back on.

Still finessing the metal plate to hold the computer under my seat. Need to drill perimeter holes and paint. Made aluminum brackets for the computer to mount to the plate. Need to make a battery mount.
took the truck for a short test drive about 4 miles but it over heated pretty bad got to 135. i dont have a thermostat in it yet maybe when i put one in it wont over heat.
Started installing a set of Altman Ez-Latches, so far it's going very well. Still have to come up with a fix for the lock feature. They don't lock with the interior handle and I'll need to find another way to do it. I'll probably get the electric remote kit but will have to look for a way for the manual interior lock.
Sold my 53 3100 yesterday, owned it for 10 years. Spent first 5 years fixing it up, went to a few car shows and cruz'd a little. Most of the time it sat in the carport while I wrenched on my 51 & 53 burbs. I'm going to miss it, I did get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but now I don't have any excuse for not getting the burbs on the road! Plus now I need something to haul with! The new owner spotted my truck while I was cruzing and stopped to see if I would sell it, I gave him a price and he jumped all over it. He lives close by so I'll probably see it on down the road.
As some of you know, I recently bought a lot of NOS parts. There was a drivers door latch in the lot and I saved it back for the burb.
I have had trouble with the latch for quite a while so last night at the car show I decided today was the day to change it.
Easy job, right? Just pull the handles, the arm rest, the door panel, 3 screws and it's out of there. Wrong.
I had to pull the window out. And of course to do that I had to pull the wing out too. And to get it out I had to remove the lower access panel. The bottom bolt didn't want to budge and the lower mount nut bracket on it pulled out of the rivets.
I changed out the latch then went to work on the vent assembly. I drilled the old rivets out of the bracket and attached it with screws. I ran a tap through the nut plate and applied Never-Seez to it and the bolt. The 'while I'm in there syndrome' hit and pulled the nut off the vent tensioner and ran a tap through it too. I brushed the threads of the stud and put it all back together with anti seize. Now maybe it will stay open on the highway.
And now the door latches when I shut it.

I got the rear hub assembly and axle out of the passenger side of my 36 1 1/2 ton, never done anything like that before. Trying to get the rear brakes completed this week so maybe I can go for an actual drive down a road rather than putting around with no brakes in the back of my farm.
I think it's more fun to be able to stop for some reason, call me crazy.
Straightened the grill surround, straightened the front bumper, and got the donor front RH fender hung after fixing the rust and priming. I finally got the damage done by my daughter fixed.
Made the battery mount. Actually, modified the original battery mount to fit a larger battery. I'll probably post pictures in the DITY Forum later. Gathered some fittings to install the oil pressure sender and oil pressure switch.
My friend Mark and I got the drivers side cab weather stripping and door on last night. It's so close, I can feel it. I just have a few more wiring issues to work out then it'll be on the road (I hope).
When I think back to December when I got the truck and I look at the photos I took of it then, I realize how much hard work we've put into this. It's an amazing transformation.
Wow Dave...that's some comparison. I think my weather stripping on the doors was installed wrong by the PO and that's why they don't seem to fit well. Jerry Kassis of Dr. J's Resto told me that when I met him in Sac a few months back. What a guy ! and he does great work up there in Oregon. Anyway, he is making a video on just how to install this stuff. I'll post a link when I get it.
Great work Dave

Adjusted the stop light switch, again... brake lights were coming on at random or staying on after I parked it. I added a washer in there for a spacer so that the nut would snug up better.
I'm actually running out of things to do at the moment 'til I can rustle up some more $$$,but finally managed to get the speedo calibrated. I was mis-reading the instructions and failing to follow the sequence......

I also picked up a 5"X5"X1/2" steel plate to attach to my left rear spring to balance the ride. One of the guys at Garland steel had a 51 Olds with the Rocket V8. It was a great job of restoration. He gave me a link showing how the engine was built at the Lansing plant. Rocket
Prewired some gauges. Mostly rebuilt the light sockets, put a hot lead on the gas gauge. Then did some temporary aftermarket oil pressure and water temp gauges. Tomorrow, drill some holes to hide some wires.
