I was parked at a NAPA store after getting some tools and came out to my truck (a 55 first ) and an old guy in his Ford F-150 pulled in next to me. He got out of his truck, in his bib overalls, and walked around my truck twice. He didn't say anything until he was done looking over my truck. He then turned to enter the NAPA store and said over his shoulder " Wern't no good when they was new nether".

When he came out he would of had a flat and woulda had to go back into the store to fetch a valve core and tire pump.

I gave my 8 year old nephew a ride in my 56 gmc yesterday, and after we got back he told his mother, "Uncle Randy's truck has a couch in it" He'd never seen a bench seat before.

I'd just finished my 28 Chev with new paint and was parked at the high school. 2 boys were admiring it and I asked them what year they thought it was. They thought for a while and said "2012"

My neighbor asked me if I wanted to sell my truck, I said, "sure, for $1x,xxx." He said,"is that with it all finished?" Me: blank stare.

LOL, now that was funny!! It's amazing how peoples minds think...

the neighbor kid across the street once said "hey, look theres a slop truck! i wonder if he feeds pigs with it, its soooooo ugly!


i almost went to whip him for sayin' such a thing :mad: . me and that kid never have gotten along real well, and that sealed it. i wasn't sad when he got his license taken when he tried to outrun the police one day: THAT'S what you get for calling Mater names!!!!!!!!!!

...got a good laugh yesterday. Finally, after years of work I drove the panel on the highway yesterday, first time, to my grand daughters soccer game.
Well, we have always referred to the panel as "Big Orange"....till yesterday when my wife referred to it as the "Orange Bomb", or was it Orange Bum ??? I never asked

On my first proper drive last week,my truck was sitting outside my work when a guy (who's in the motor trade) insisted in telling me my truck had a short block Chevy engine........

Today a lady stopped and asked if she could take a picture of it,she loved it and remembered seeing them as a kid when she lived in San Francisco.
She and the truck are a long way from home!

My favorite comment is not a comment, but an observation. A couple of years ago, I passed a garage where I live where there is a local car club. Wednedsay nights are an open house, so I brought the old truck up there to visit one night.

Now there are all sorts of hot rods there, many with beautiful paint and metal work, all much more interesting than the truck, or so one would think. However, everytime I drop by to visit, the truck gets all the attention no matter what is on the lot. I usually have a tough time escaping at the end of the night, as everyone has an old truck story they just have to tell me.

She's a widow and apparently her husband loved the old truck. It was a great experience buying it from her because she could tell from my enthusiasm that I was excited about getting it back on the road. I've been in touch with her since I bought it and send her updates every once in a while. Well, this response from her seeing it driving is precious, I thought I'd share it here:

MY SON, BOW, AND MY DAUGHTER ALICIA, AND I... COULD NOT BE HAPPIER FOR YOU TO HAVE MY HUSBAND DAVID'S, TRUCK. YOU ARE LIKE A LITTLE KID WITH HIS FIRST TOY FIRE ENGINE ....I LOVE IT !

SEEING THE TRUCK MOVING WAS SO NICE, BUT WHEN I HEARD YOU BURST OUT IN DELIGHTED LAUGHTER, I CRIED WITH THE JOY OF YOUR PLEASURE.

What a cool note! It doesn't get any better than that!

I once bought an old tractor from a widow. I sent her some photos after I had gotten it running and painted, and received a nice thank you note from her as well. It gives you a good feeling.

I had driven my truck to my ultimate frisbee game this fall. When I was leaving, a girl who had been playing on another team said to me "I love your truck! It just makes me so happy!"

I told her it makes me happy too. That was a very random comment but not one I will soon forget.

Back in the day, had an old '61 Suburban painted yellow. We moved into a new house and the little kid next door, who was ready to start school, wanted to know if that was his school bus.

I was at a local car show and the kid that lives next door to me came by and looked inside my 1949 Chevrolet 3600 and ask me what all the pedals were for. He had never seem a truck with 5 pedals on the floor or a column stick shift.

At camp this weekend, I asked my 10 year old nephew (my dad's grandson who will eventually get the truck) what he would do with a 1951 chevy pick up.....his response...."duh, trade it in for a newer one".

I looked at my dad and his head dropped between his shoulders.

Sadly, that's what happens to most of them built with giving it to a child in mind. They don't want 'old junk'. They want what is popular in their crowd.

Oh don't worry...he won't get it til I'm dead and gone and I'm only 34

By then the ten year old will have grown old and learned to appreciate the truck for what it is.

That's what I was getting at . Cause we only wanna give it to someone who will appreciate it...family or not.

My son was in school the day I trailered his 46 home. He has since graduated HS and moved out to his grandparents to be closer to college. I suggested we move his pickup out to where he is so he could put it under cover and it would be closer for him to work on. It does run, but it isn't quite road trip ready yet so we were going to have to trailer it. I told him I would take it out in a couple of days.
He said "No, No, I want to take it, this time I want to get the thumbs up from all the little kids in the neighborhood!"

I've had my truck 7 years and it's parking spot has been the driveway. Recently, one morning I was leaning over the tailgate viewing what 7 years exposure has done to the bed. A mature woman (somebodies grandma) on her daily walk stopped and said, "each day I walk by and see your truck, it makes me smile".
The comment gave me goose bumps!

"you use that as a work truck?" get that one a lot about my '52 one ton. currently using it a welding truck to work on a job doing repairs at a local dairy farm.looks good with my welders,torches and other metal tools on back.
