Hey guys, new to the forum here, I've been lurking and researching for a while deciding how I wanted to tackle my 1950 3100. Its an all original heirloom that was passed down to me so it does carry quite a bit of sentimental value. That being said, I proposed to my beautiful bride to be last weekend, and as bad as she wants that "perfect dress" I want us to be able to leave in this truck! I will post some pictures as soon as i can. To sum it up its gonna need a new motor, wiring harness, full brake and fuel system to start things off. My goal is to just get it on the road. I have found tons of great info on here so far, but thought it would be fun to have a "gettin her going" thread where I can post the process. Here's the kicker..... I have until march! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

Our wedding is in May, trying to get my 48 done in time for a honeymoon road trip.. Finishing a truck is a lot of work and stuff to think about.

Congrats! I did the same to my girlfriend over the weekend and we're planning the same thing with my truck in our wedding.

Good luck, guys. I'm 64 years old, "finished" my truck four years ago, and the wife doesn't like to ride in it.

Fortunately (at least for now) she is excited about it. Maybe we can help each other out it'd be cool to see how everyone's projects turn out.

Congrats on your new engagement. Glad to see others share the same idea (you have a good future wife if she entertaining the idea at all)...Anyway, We took our 54 up to the courthouse to get married in almost 3 years ago and my wife loved it. Friends decorated the truck and as you can tell from the photos, I didn't want the cans on the string to fly up and hit my bumper or tailgate. So before we left I flipped them over the tailgate.

....BUT, I'd suggest taking all that wedding money and buy you a truck already running and then start working on the "family" truck when you get back. I guess you could "sell the idea" as a His & Her truck

....I can see the reviews and progress reports now. Man, this is going to be fun,hehehe.

I am restoring a 54 right now to be a replacement for a very special 54 in transport blue I owned 25 years ago. Yep I drove it to my wedding in 1988. I remember the day like it was yesterday. We had four children in the first four years of marriage, went through a lot of ups and downs but I truly believe its the best life has to offer.

Well thanks a ton again guys, this I going to be an interesting "ride" for sure over the next few months but I look forward to it. I'm thinking that if i can tackle one specific area at a time I can whittle it down and get it done in time, that's the plan anyway. I have been piddling with it over the last couple of years fortunately so I've been able to figure out what all I have to do, which is lot... but hey admitting you have a problem is the first step to success right? Ha, we'll wish me luck this weekend anyway, I'm supposed to go pick up a rebuilt, running 216 so we'll see how that works out, it'd be a good start!

....maybe you caould have a " guy shower " where everyone brings truck parts *g* Congrats on your engagement !

Britcon your not far off base. My fiancée asked me if I wanted a "honey-do" party because her parents would like to throw me one. I said a do what? She says yeah its like a wedding shower for guys but you get tools. Sign me up! I love this woman!

...and it sounds like you've got some neat in-laws!! Your one lucky man.

Tools are better than nick knacks that you usually get at a shower. Man, you sure got a keeper and I don't mean the truck.

Thanks for the compliment, as far as the body goes its pretty good considering that it was used as a "store truck" for the family grocery business for over 30 years. Not too much rust just a little in the fender bottoms as usual. A good solid base for sure.

Congratulations on your engagement. In March my bride and I will commemorate 35 years of marriage. I wish for you at least that much happiness.

...March isn't that far away. You may have to keep the truck restore to just the basics to get it safely roadworthy. (Besides, that paint will buff out.) ;>)

Yes March is coming up fast! This is just going to be a very necessity based "build" for right now, new wiring harness, motor, tires, brake and fuel system and of course all of the little misc. things that go along with that. Right now my main concern is finding a good motor. It will see a complete frame up restoration but not right now I would be a wreck!

Well I picked up my "new" motor yesterday, a 216 out of a '53. It turns over, new carb and fresh valve adjustment and has only been sitting for about 6 months. Hopefully it won't be too hard to get going and drop in. I'd like to crank it before I set it in the truck, any advice?

Set it on a pallet or block of wood ( so you don't scratch up the pan too much.) Support it so it doesn't fall over or try to hobble away from you ( hang it a little from a cherry picker.) Add 6v, a little gas and crank!

Thanks MSN, that's the plan. Right now I have to swap some of the running gear from my original motor like the starter/flywheel/transmission and I also want to put my oil filter on it, this new motor doesn't have one, its funny that it was even an option. I haven't looked at them side by side yet but I can't imagine why my parts wouldn't just bolt right up. My original motor was "newly rebuilt" and then sat for 30 years, you guys think the starter and generator should be rebuilt or just try it and see what happens? I'm mechanically inclined this is just a bit of unfamiliar territory and I am trying to keep from burning a lot of time going backwards.

My bride of 36 years called my 54,3100 junk, i still have the truck.
