Continued fitting the sound deadener pads and started fitting the heat insulation on the floor, firewall and roof, ran out of glue though.
All we need now is some heat so I can 'test' it!
Just waiting for my new gas tank to arrive......

I welded in the passenger door patch panel then ground it out and used filler for finishing. It looks GREAT!
Sand, prime, paint and assembly is next.
I also met a buddy yesterday who had a driver door with no dents and minimal rust on the bottom. It's MUCH better than mine. We worked out a deal and the door's now in my garage.
I scored BIG for the '59 project this past weekend!

After a very successful first visit to Jim Carter Truck Parts and Harbor Freight tools I installed a new Tach and replacement passenger door handle assembly in 58 Suburban. Also tightened up the oil pan bolts in an effort to solve a leaking problem. All in all it was a great day!!

Thanks

After having the truck for the last 25 years, I finally got my brother to send me the paperwork to put the truck in my name. I've been bugging him to send it to me for about 20 years and I finally got him off his *. Since the plan is to get the old girl back on the road by Jan 1st after 15years in mothballs I wanted to get the title straightened out.

Cleaned painted and installed the front bumper.

I'm proud of how the driver side fender turned out compared to when I got it.

Looking good. How did your roof come out? I see that you had quite a dent in the original shot. I have been working on my roof of my 48 and I'm not to where I want to be with it.

The roof still has dents and wrinkles but not caved in like before.
It sits so high I can't see it without standing on a stool. smile

I'm in a final sanding stage of the '59 passenger door patch panel installation.
I'm excited that soon, I can sand and prime the door interiors to apply my interior paint colors and assemble all the hardware!

Cut the original front bumper off yesterday and installed a better condition MBC stamped replacement along with a pair of stainless bumper guards. Also installed one of the original fog/tractor lights on the rear as a back-up lamp and finally did the headlight bucket gaskets, stainless trim rings and seals, and stainless visors.

Last week I took the cab down to have sandblasted inside and out and then epoxy primed.

This morning they called and said to come and get it, it was done. I was was really happy there wasn't much rot in it.

Thanks, not sure if it'll ever be totally rattle free(it is an old truck after all) but even now there's a huge improvment in the noise levels and fewer rattles!

OOOOOOHHHHHH nice. I like the looks of that truck. Beep Beep. I am still removing paint and bondo and taking care of the body work. Thought I was almost done, but found that someone hid some dents with a bucket of mud.

Thanks for the compliments. I still have to finish the interior. I'm also having a sticky float issue that needs corrected.

Wayne, beautiful truck! thumbs_up

This is what I have gotten done this week:

bought sandblaster (after researching and talking to several guys at work who have some and use them regularly)
sandblaster ready to shoot the cab roof

removed hoses and saran-wrapped the engine
see pic

set up my curtains and closed in the booth
attaching hangers to sheeting
first curtain up

sandblasted 1/4 of the top of the cab
starting out

salvaged sand and stored for later screening and reuse
brooming sand from hood
collecting sand from tarps

visible progress is being made and I'm happy !! grin

Got the gumption up to try welding for the first time. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty, but the weld has held so far. In an experiment to see if I can get the frame off of the axle with the way the PO had ran the leaf springs, I've decided to try welding two 1" x 1" square tubes together to place between the leaf and the axle. If it doesn't work, at least I got to try welding out smile

If all goes well this weekend, I may actually get the air shocks in place and the leaves put back into place. If I get frustrated, there's always something that needs de-rusting and painting!

I ordered vent window seal kits and lower door window seals for my '59 doors.
I'm aiming to do some final body work on the doors this 3-day weekend...
Maybe set the new vent window glasses in my newly painted frames. smile

I picked it up from the shop. had an alignment, new front tires new right tie rod, and right ball joint. also at another shop i had an oil change, clutch adjustment and worked on the cruise control, it still does not work right, it will shut off with the brake but not with the clutch.

Gutted the original 37 coil to get it ready to slip over a 12 volt coil and cut off the conduit from the original ignition switch, hated to do it but a couple of the original parts will be going back on and will fill up a hole in the firewall. I was hoping I could use the original ignition switch since it will be going back to the foot stomp starter but I wired the truck for a ignition switch with a accessory post.

Removed torque tube out of my '51 project. Took a bit longer than planned but got it done alone so that was rewarding. Use my engine lift to lift frame while a floor jack supported the axle. next step getting up to speed on lining up my '73 camaro rear axle. Picking up a '55 235 on wednesday. this is progress.

While waiting for my new gas tank to arrive(another story)
I decided to try my hand at some basic carpentry.
I formed a wooden framework over the gas tank and sheeted it with 1/2" and 1/4" ply, sunk my rear speakers in,I also fitted my front speakers in where the original was.
The head unit now resides in the glove box,I hate to see sheet metal cut up for hi-fi installations....

Note: NO Chevrolet was harmed in the making of this thread...... wink

After 54 years of use the firewall had quite a few extra holes in it. So yesterday here was our solution:
