My package arrived containing my new vent window glasses, door wipes and division bar felt for my '59. YAY!!
On another note while at the location of the '58 donor truck yesterday, I wirebrushed the dirt away to reveal the head casting number on the 261 engine. The head is a 261 with matching blue paint under all that dirt and grime. I really want to tear this puppy down. I'd be very happy to use that engine in my '59.

Got the old girl outta the paint shop thumbs_up after a close encounter with a engine stand cry and a overfull gas tank that runneth over...

Finally got the windshield out. Everything was frozen the frame is shot so I had to cut it,Saved the crank mechanism, now if I can free up the hinges I can get them out.
I see a lot of people set in a fixed windshield is this because the crank outs leak and whistle?

These old bolts are in my blood. Hard thing is focusing on just one.

Don't know about that but as a kid I was always fascinated by the crank out windows. My grandad was a district manager with General Foods and they gave him a car. I was pretty young but I remember the crank and he could hardly keep my hands off his. I would be tempted to do whatever it took to keep the crank.

Built a low stake side out of white pine. Storms rolled in so I only got it mocked up and loosely bolted together. Gonna finish up the sanding and varnishing this week.

No point in having a cool looking truck if you can't go anywhere in it!

Rebuilt the carb, got the heat riser out of the old manifold and into the new. Now thinking that maybe I should go with the Offenhauser dual intake, not quite sure what that will take to accomplish.

Finally got the truck out of Austin Speed Shop, where they redid the suspension and brakes. Failed inspection for emer brake, turn signals, and a couple of other things, so will retry tomorrow, at B&B Automotive on Lamar. Took the day just acquainting myself with this wonderful pile of metal! My wife even got on the creeper and I showed her what an old truck looked like from the bottom.
One thing I noticed is it tends to stall when I turn a corner, and idle down. I wonder if is just idle speed, carb float level, or maybe vapor lock from heating up on a 100+ day.

Sounds good ED. Please ask the engine question in the engine forum.

Thanks.

Was gonna rebuild the current fuel pump but I figured this was as good a time as any to upgrade to the dual action pump with vac assist.

I had quite a productive day, well at least by MY standards!

Stripped out the left front suspension and fixed the air leak, set the alignment and camber, and finally stripped and painted the right hand valve cover to match the left one that I did about 2 years ago.... blush

BTW removing powder coat is a real PITA!

Finally made up my last brake line for my 1950 Chev PU. Decided to upgrade the master cylinder and of course all new brake shoes and wheel cylinders all around. Had to drill some new holes to position hold down clamps for the new lines and the next step is to bleed the system and carry on with some body work which I started last fall. Lots of distractions but I'm determined to forge on.

Big Chevy 3600 wanted to see a picture of where I mounted the tach in the panel. I used the hole for the e-brake bracket since I'm using something different.
Here's the picture,Jim.

That is a tiny tach. I wouldn't think an old man could see it from the drivers seat.

Wow, that looks good. What is that textured paint on the floor? Is that a sound deadener?

I finished wiring my 454-30 (except for headlights), Started building new sideboards/gates for the dump flatbed, purchased new Gas and Temp Gauges, also purchased spare 11" clutch for my 48 GMC pickup w/270 engine.

Made arrangements to go get the GMC 454-30 parts donor truck I bought, on Sat.

Drank lots of coffee...

Yes it is heavily textured and sprayed on the floor inside and out. Should keep rust to a min and help with sound.

I found a Center Console out of a 1998 Tahoe that will work with the Bucket seats I got for the 51. Getting ready for some interior paint and new carpet.

Got the front trim pieces back from the media blasters. They look BEAUTIFUL!! Never seen such a sight. Purdy medium grey with shiny speckles. Rough, sand paper feel. Oooh! No more rust. No more paint. Amazing! Me thinks I'm a fan of media blasting. grin

Put two coats of primer on before storing them out of the weather 'til the rest is ready to be primed and painted. I'm making progress on the ol' gal. smile

Went to HF this morning and got an air sander, discs, paint gun set, etc...

Then we got the temporary shelter up for the work on the truck. It's amazing what you can do with two 16' pine poles, a used dog trolley cable, 7 canopy poles, and a 30' x 40' tarp. It's not fancy, but it will work. grin Hopefully, it stays in one piece. LOL

New shoes, wheel cylinder and axle seal on the right rear. Round 2 on the left side tomarrow. Then to throw new wheel cylinders up front, new master cylinder, reinstall the gas tank and hopefully fire her up.

Got the rebuild kit installed in the Edelbrock 1405 carb. Going to drain to old gas out of the tank tomorrow and put in some fresh gas, put in new points, condenser and rotor button, check the plugs, install the freshly charged battery, put the carb back on and hopefully get it fired up and running. It has been sitting for over a year now and I have a hankering to get him back on the road.
