I was told 1947 1 ton, but I think it's at least a 48. Seller and I talked. I offered $100 and would go to $250 tops. motor turns over and was told ran 1.5 years ago. Brake peddle to the floor, not sure what else.

47 was the 1st year for that body style no vent window, gas tank mounted on frame with no tank behind seat is typical 48 so still could be 47. pull down handle door latch. heavy bumper 1 tons usually have lighter duty bumper. if it has 20" wheels it would indicate larger than 1 ton. my guess 47-48 1.5 or 2 ton.

You know that it would be worth $500 or more at the scrap yard right?

As stated above, it's either a '47, or '48 1 1/2, or 2 ton truck, seeing how it has the frame mounted fuel tank. The fuel tanks were moved into the cab for the '49, & newer trucks. If the front axle dust cap has bolts holding them on, it's a 2 ton. That channel bumper was only used on the 1 1/2 ton, & 2 ton trucks. Scrap price will be above $500, so unless the owner just doesn't know any better, you won't get it for $100-$250. Good luck.

All great points. Thanks for the feedback. Like lots of folks here, I hate to see these trucks go the scrap pile.

In the PNW, these trucks are all over the darn place. If it's worth $250 to you than it's worth $250 to you. I've bought them for less and bought them for more. Who cares what scraps worth? You don't plan on scrapping it do you? Don't let anyone else rattle you on what your willing to pay. Do what feels right and trust your gut!

Brad, I don't know how you could get that price in parts? I've tried parting out 1 1/2 ton trucks and can't give the parts away up here. If you can, I'm jealous! grin

Check the transmission for the lockout lever for reverse. If it has one it's a '47 as they used the non-synchronized transmission. If not, it has an sm420 and indicates a later year truck.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Jeff

Not trying to discourage the dude, just offering my opinion. I usually offer (if asked for an offer) what I know scrap prices are, just to be fair, & not take advantage of anyone, especially if they are elderly. Not any $100 trucks around my area.

I was not attempting any discouragement either...but most people know more or less what something will bring in scrap these days so to offer someone a lot less can be insulting to some people. Others though are just glad to have it be saved or to be rid of them.

By offering scrap or reasonably near scrap price you are doing two things 1)showing the person it will likely be saved...if they care 2)giving the person the same or a little better than they could get from any scrap hauler. As Spanky said it is just being fair....the whole treat others how you want to be treated thing.

Hi,

Looks like a 47.5 or 48 2 or 2 1/2 ton, but would need a better look at the wheel size and tire size and number of lug nuts.

49 and up had a seat tank, 51 and later (I think) had wind wings, 52 had push button door release.

But I could be wrong... wink
