After reviewing info on the forums i gave the wood bed 4 coats of linseed oil and three coats of stain. Will let it weather and put on finished coats later. Thanks for the info. You guys are appreciated.

Not sure what wood, it was in the truck when I bought it in February, possibly red oak if there is such a thing. Was pretty red when I coated with linseed oil, so I stained it with red mahogony. In two or 3 months I will give it several coats with polyurathane that has pecan stain mixed right in it. I know what it will look like because I just refinished my farm house kitchen table and a dresser this winter with the same process.

Had to go darker because the wood was stained with motor oil, grease and tar from the junk the previous owner threw in it.

Not bad considering the deck cleaner was $ 3.00 and the linseed oil cost 3 bucks and the stain was $4.88. Used $20 dollars worth of sandpaper for a total of $30.88

Factory would have been pine, but could easily have been oak that was replaced later on.

The wood is oak. Looks great.
