I started working on the windshield garnishes tonight,I'd already sorted out the bends and dents,so I got them sanded and primed while the weather's still relatively mild.
The forecast for the rest of the week's not so good!


That's a big IF Jim, like a lot of folks say,they're never really finished,but if that day ever arrives,I/we'll just have to find another project to work on!

I still want a panel truck,a 'burb,a COE,a bigger bank account.....you get the picture....
That reminds me,i need to go and buy my lotto ticket!

Just about finished the primer. Finished installing the keyless entry and also played around with this neat trick for mounting the stereo from another forum. Haven't finished the install yet but will keep you posted.

Added power steering to the '66 C20. What a difference. No more manhandling it around the turns and parking is now a breeze - most times it'll go into a spot on the first try now.

Putting rear disc brakes on the '65. Discovered both rear bearings were shot, so had to replace them.

Got the first break from work in two months to "visit" with my bus . Dropped off new sheet metal to replace the lower body panels...welded the guide to cut off the sheet metal on the drivers side...broke loose a few more rusted nuts...made patterns for some body stiffeners. Little stuff, but it adds up. Onward!

You've got an interesting project. I have a 78 International 35 pass that I still have in service. I put a new engine in last December. I'll probably keep her when someday I sell my businesses. It should make a good project. The good thing about these buses is the sheet-metal is much stronger than our Stovebolts. That makes sense when you think about what they were hauling. Those kids can destroy a nuke.

Picked up the intake manifold from my welder, and had him weld the manifolds for the adapters together so I can level them on the mill. The intake is almost done!

One day I will learn to weld Aluminum..

Took off the fuel pump and cleaned a little crud out of it and blew out the fuel lines. Also put in new points. Finally, a nice day for outside stuff! 57 degrees F.

had the day off today to recover from some surgery yesterday. so i snuck out to the garage. finished mocking up the front suspension and did some figuring for my brake lines. pic

Got the cab back on the frame.

Cleaned out the garage,getting ready for the return of the truck from the exhaust shop. Beautiful day for a drive if I have my baby. Sunny and 74 degrees.

Hurst 4speed Shift Linkage adjusted on my Saginaw with the help of an Ol Timer. Also extended my throttle rod since no modified bellcranks and Rods are available in the Freekin U.S for the Dual Intakes!

Well, for the record John, I like to ride with my 50's.60's & 70's music and any muffler louder than my mother in law is too loud, lol. With that in mind I decided to get stainless X pipes, ceramic coated with stainless stock mufflers. I don't expect to ever have to mess with exhaust again.

was able to get out to the garage early evening for a couple of hours. so to pass the time i put the rear suspension into the frame finger tight. located and drilled for the upper shock crossmember and eyeballed the rear end alittle bit. this weekend i plan on finishing up the rear suspension and axle placement. so i can tack the axle purches in their correct spot for finish welding. pictures next time i post here. later MO

You can get done in one hour what would take me six months to do.

everything was right there and brand new store bought so it all setup very easily. i just hand tightened everything. also with the garage setup the way it is, its easy to get stuff done. i dont have to drag anything in or out to work. so there was no setup time involved. actually took longer to find a good 5/8 drill bit then anything. also i had previously bolted the mounts to the frame. so that saved alot of time right there. i do alot of prep work before i start a certain project, ie read instructions,research and alot of thinking and planning. before i ever turn a wrench. my mind is actually laying out the brake system, any wires on the frame and the rest of my boxing plates right now. i quess i dont really start anything until i know for sure it will go smoothly. also i am in mockup stage so all of this will get torn down at least once more before final assembly. pics of progress

brakes March 2012

my master cylinder replacement turned into replacing a brake line(snapped the fitting off with the line) and two wheel cylinders as well(when I snapped the bleeder valves off of each).

Then I still had to bleed the brakes, which is a real pain on this ride.

Photos of only the left wheel cylinder... I took the right one completely out of the drum and still broke off the valve, AGAIN. So, now I have a METRIC bleeder valve on my 1965 truck, why!!!??

I did get the Reflextix put in my panel and its ready for the upholstery when a few extra $$$ come my way!!!

pulled the whole torque tube driveline out of my 46 1/2 ton, switching to open drive with a T-5 and a s-10 rear,

good move!

I got my new driver side window installed with the new outer weather striping. I've had the windows out so many times now I feel like a pro. Also installed the new passenger side emergency brake cable and brake adjuster screw. That brake cable was a little tricky fitting it in!
I also mounted the new master cylinder adapter bracket. Soon I'll bolt on the new MC and start bending lines.

I pulled the front bumper and splash apron. The bumper was held on with some damaged bolts and was making a bunch of noise. Pedestrians would look over their shoulder as I came down the street, moms hustled heir children inside. I'm serious... It was pretty bad.
Bought new bumper bolts. Welded and straightened the splash apron as well as I could. It had been damaged in the past and poorly repaired then.
The bumper bracket is bent. Not quite sure how to straighten that. But now the bumper and apron are back on, straighter than before and makes no noise!

Next... Exhaust pipes for the 261 and see if I can adjust the steering box.

got the rear suspension buttoned up today. got the purches welded on the ford nine inch and tightened everything up. dont like the upper shock mount bar though. i might do something with it not sure though. also started to work on my new radiator support crossmember it was screwed up badly. started with some nice rectangular tubing and pie cut it to form some nice curves to match the original. more work tomorrow later MO

Installed my rebuilt shocks (Apple Hydraulics), with new links and bushings last night. That completes the suspension rebuild. Gonna' grease all the fittings while its on jackstands, then go for a nice long drive today.

finished my radiator crossmember today here are the before and after pics. before pic inbetween pic after pic will finish welding it in when i box the frame. also some pics of my suspension that i finished this week. pic1 pic2 thats all for this week more to come next weekend. MO

Put new brake wheel cylinders on the rear wheels today - so far I've put in a new gas tank and rebuilt the carb. Starts great now. Next will be the front brake wheel cylinders, rebuild the master cylinder and bleed the brake lines. Wheel cylinder pic

got the correct rear finally for my 37, now just need to cut off the brackets lol anyone in tulsa area with a plasma torch :P

Got a new bat. Removed the alternator, been draining battery, had it tested, it failed of course, so got new one reinstalled both and fixed a tire plug. finished off a beautiful day in Carolina with trip around the loop to check everything out. What an awesome day in my 52!!!!!!

I drove the burb to Hamilton in the rain yesterday for a car show, about 100 miles away. About half way there my wipers quit.

The car show was indoors so I had a dry place to look at the wiper situation. I found the switch cable had worked loose. I could turn them on by hand if I need them but since I had applied fresh Rain-X at the show I didn't need them on the way home.

By the way, I took first in the unfinished class out of 5 or 6 entries.

Today I pulled the wiper motor. I found the screw that holds the cable to the motor was stripped. Replaced that and re-installed the motor. I got it all hooked up and the motor doesn't work.

I checked the power supply and there's no power coming from the Ron Francis 12 to 6 unit. I check the junction block and there's no power going to the RF unit. After a few more voltage checks and trying to start the truck with no response, I checked the voltage at the battery. Barely 6 volts in a 12 V battery.

OK, I drove that thing 4 hours yesterday with head lights on and heater motor going full blast. I guess the alternator didn't keep up. I hooked up my battery charger and it started smoking. Pop the cover and find my circuit board fried.

I jumped the truck off and the amp gauge pegs toward charge. It quickly settled in to a 30 amp charge. I plugged the wiper motor back in and it worked.


I left the engine running while I put up the tools and smoked a cigar. Another fun day in the shop.

Put a valeo 12v fan motor in the housing of my heater. Had to do a little fabrication but no mods to the original heater.
Now it sounds like I have a turbine under the dash. Splash, the dog, doesn't quite know what to make of it.

GOt the head off the 53 Powerglide 235. (Upgrade for the 45 1.5 ton) Spent a while with a wire brush and solvent looking for cracks. Won't know for sure until its magnafluxed, but looks good so far.

I bought a "new" to me cluster gauge for my truck. Now looking at the new gauges it is not same as my AMP gauge :/

My gauge displays 50 - 0 - 50 yet this gauge shows D - 0 - C

I want my truck to be historically accurate. What yr. did GMC switch the AMP gauge layout? Can I get replacement AMP display?

Rebuilt the brake master cylinder tonight - still no fluid to the back brakes when trying to bleed the system.

I would take these elec questions over to the electrical forum.

I painted the rebuilt long block 235, with great anticipation that one day soon (this year) Rochester will drive again. It has been on "vacation" since 1975! Now THAT is the life!

Did a lot of dent repair on the small dings of my 50 3100 rear fenders. The entire bed has been sand blasted and I am getting the body work done so I can get the entire bed painted and reassembled in the next month ( provided I can catch some good days to get the painting done with good temperatures and humidity levels). I have replaced both angle iron strips on the bed and I have the new bed strips waiting for some paint. as soon as the painting is done, my good friend has some dried walnut wood waiting to be shaped properly to fit in as new bed wood.
