I have a new set of 8.25x20 steer tires for my 1959 C60, but the local tire shops won't touch my widowmaker rims (for good reasons). The rims are 6-stud.

What are my alternatives?

I have a good supply of 20" tires, so I'd like to run those if I can.

Are there stock one-piece rims for this year?
Will later model years fit?
Are there more modern 22.5" rims that might be appropriate?

Thanks for your input,

Jason

Jason,
There are 22.5 1 piece wheels that were an option for your 59. They are out there but pretty scares. Ford also used the same bolt pattern in the 60s. Mine for my 57 came off a Ford. Check out the tech section on this site. There is a good write up on big bolt wheels.

Are you sure they are the widow makers or is that particular tire shop too lazy to work on all split rims in general???? Pictures?

FYI, all 20" tires are tube type with multi piece rims. I've never seen or heard of a 20" 1-piece truck wheel. The 22.5" tubeless (1-piece) rims are the replacement size for the 20's.

Look for a BIG truck junk yard in your area and plan a field trip.

As Scott said be sure that what you have are really widow makers. Today the tube type wheels are becoming very rare and new tire techs seem to think all two and three piece wheels are widow makers.
As Mike said the tech section here has a plethora of info on the subject.

Talk to Les at Midway Tirecraft on Vantage Way in Delta, I'm sure he can help.

Hy 1size and guys, Accuride has p/n 28157 - 22.5" X 6.75", that is pretty narrow but it is a brand new wheel, hope that helps.

The rim 3B references [6.75"] will handle the 10.00 & 11.00 x 22.5" tires. These are direct replacements for the 9.00 & 10.00 x 20's. You increase your tire number one full number when you convert from 20's to 22.5's, so a 10.00 x 22.5 has the same tread width and diameter as a 9.00 x 20.

As of a few years ago when I checked, ALCOA wasn't producing any rims with our 6-lug bolt pattern.

Grigg has done a tech article on wheels, check it out!

Tech Tip
http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/wheels/

If you want 20" or 22.5" wheels they are very common used. I can think of about a half dozen sets of 6 lug 22.5's I've seen in various yards within a hour and a half of here.
If I were you I'd go ahead and find a set of 22.5" wheels.

Grigg, You must have some good salvage yards aroung you. I have only ever saw 1 6 lug 22.5 in a salvage yard around me and I bought it.
