Nice score, Daniel! I LOVE IT!

Me, I pulled some parts out of my de-rust vat and rounded up some more to put in it.
All I need is a little free time, a nice clear day and some black rattle cans!

I'm ready now to bolt on my left running board and splash panel as soon as I can motivate my son to drop by and help.
Also, I am busy cutting and trimming my glove box to bring it down to size so it will fit after the air vent hoses etc. taking up 1/2 the room in there. I've been taking pics of both and will share as soon as the exercises are finished.

Jim,
I just cut down my glove box on the ’53. First I measured how much room from the front of the dash to the a/c unit I had. Then drew a line around the box and cut it with a utility knife (with a new blade). Then I traced the outline on a piece of black foam board I purchased at Staples. Then I pushed the foam board into the front half of the box until it was flush with the back and used black gorilla tape all around the outside to hold it in place.

Po-boy I am, Daniel. My "VAT" is a 10 gallon rectangular plastic tub with matching lid thumbs_up from the Dollar Store. My solution is is a gallon of mollases from Tractor Supply ($8) and 9 gallons of water.
Heck, I saw it on Youtube and I'll try anything. It takes a week or better and sometimes you have to hose off, wire brush some loose crud, hose off and put back in the vat for another spell.
It gets it down to the bare metal though.

John,
I did the same thing but saved the back of the box thinking I might be able to connect it where I cut the front. It is a bit small and I haven't quite figured it all out yet. I don't have the patience of Denny on these things; I wish he lived next door. I'd drive him crazy.
I'm trying to figure how you used the foam board. Are you saying you used it for the back of the box? Was it heavy enough to work or did you double it up?

Jim,
The board is about 3/16 thick and yes I used it as the back -single thickness. You'll find it in the poster board section. I tried re-using the back and found the same thing, its way too small.

That latch Denny made was awesome. He's in a much higher league than me.

Received the Bear claw latches. Rethinking whether or not to go with the shaved handles. In my head I've figured out a way to use the turn down handles and locks on both doors. More to follow......

Since it was a nice day (but cold)- decided to go for a drive. May not have another chance for a while. Noticed gas gauge is still jumping around. Need to fix that before Spring. Stopped on the way home and gassed it up to 3/4 full and put it back in the garage. Gonna' put it on jack stands and pull the lever shocks over the Christmas holidays and have them rebuilt (my present to me!!) first of the year.

Drove from Sanderson to Pensacola to Lauderdale, MS and back to pick up GMC 270 motor and transmission. This 270 will sit in my '49 GMC p/u. Will keep the original 228 for future rebuild.

My Cabinetmaker brought 12 pieces of red oak I will use to build my side rails. I'm still waiting on LMC to ship my runningboard splash shield. I've ordered another glovebox to replace the one I screwed up trying to reduce its size to fit my smaller area under the dash.

The correct size tires finally came in! Once on the truck we decided to take it for a ride around the neighborhood. Just as we started out the driveway there was a loud clanging bang from under the hood. As I opened the door to get out and see what it was the drivers side hood spring went rolling by and on down the driveway. Brand new set of hinges – looks like they didn’t peen the metal over enough on the spring joint. Still went for the ride – it was great!

It has been a productive week for my 50 chevy restoration. I removed the bed last weekend after grinding the last couple of bolts to remove the fenders. Then, I removed the driverside running board so my friend could have working room for the cab corner welding that we completed on Saturday. On Sunday, we removed two layers of metal patches from the cab floor and found the cab floor supports still in good shape. We proceeded to get one half of the floor board in place on the passenger side. I am fired up to continue with more work to meet my goal of driving with a new paint job before the summer of 2012 is over! This is the only vehicle I have ever owned that is older than me and I am enjoying the work since I can figure out most of the unknown portions by reading and talking to the fine folks on this website! If anyone in the richmond,VA area needs help with body work, let me know, my friend is very good and pretty reasonable on the price for his help.

Finally got round to fitting a 3rd brake light in my back window.
I've still to sort out an interior cover but that shouldn't be too much hassle.
This is a concession to safety as I don't want some dummy spoiling all my hard work!
I got one from a Nissan Micra,I just hope I dont get any organ rejection problems!

Wow -- I can finally post something to this thread smile

Over the weekend I was able to do the carburetor upgrade on the fire truck -- Took the original Stromberg off (along with the governor) and replaced it with a brand new Holley 500 (used the Mr. Gasket adapter the 60-66 GMC guys recommended. Nice, easy project. And the best part ... IT WORKS LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO.

I don't think I've ever had a project go quite like that wink

Bottom line: After 4 LONG years I finally fixed my fuel delivery system issues AND got a performance upgrade all in one textbook easy project that went without hitch.

Between that and a new grandson born yesterday I'll crawl out on a limb to say it was a fairly decent weekend smile smile

1965 C10 step side :

Drilled out the screws on the driver side door sill so that I could remove it.

Pulled the dome light wiring out from under the sill, once I finally got it loose.

My truck sure is rusty down there!

The new dome light wire with plug would not feed, was being a pain, so I cut it, fed it down fine and then re-spliced it. I have light. yay.

Now, tomorrow I have to put it all back together as I ran out of day light today.

Today I just threw out more money at the project and ordered more metal parts to get the floor board completed soon. Next I'm going to stock up on more media for sand blasting so once I start blasting I will be able to keep going.

Sorry Jim,just the two pics on Flickr,I just masked off and glass primed a black obscuration band much like you see on modern vehicles using the brake light as a template,I had the option of fashioning some brackets and bolting it on but in the end opted for good old fashioned 3M double sided tape.

LEDs have an exceptionally long lifespan so there's no immediate plans to remove it any time soon, mind you nothing a sharp razor blade wont sort......

I'll try and get some more detail shots.

Thanks Jock. It's not perfect but so far, I'm satisfied! We'll see how it goes when I attempt painting!!

I installed a set of large bear claws. Also picked up a remote entry kit with 50lb solenoids. I mocked up the passenger side last night and it opens fine. I'll wire up remote sensor when I finish the drivers side.

Good luck.

last night I finished altering my glove-box to fit with the air-conditioner parts behind it. I followed a suggestion made here on the bolt and use a styro board for the back. I must confess I screw up the first box and had to order another one. With the first box I glued the back on with Gorilla Glue. That stuff swells and when it did it made the back not fit. The second box I used weatherstrip adhesive and that worked very well.

As a back story\, i had some trouble with my 235 a month ago and as part of the diagnostic they removed the E-3 plugs i had in it and replaced with the ones that was in there before i replaced them with E-3s. i had the head worked on and new valve guides that were supposed to have been replace with the first overhaul. they did not replace the E-3s which i had forgotten about. i was watching a program today and he mentioned E-3s so i checked and the old ones were still in there. my gas mileage had dropped off by 5 miles to the gallon and i did not know why. i will see if this make a difference as it did before.

Yesterday I installed a new blower motor in my daughter's truck. The original finally had enough of being juiced with 12 volts, since I had given up on smoking hot resistors and transistors. This truck has a fresh air heater and I used a 4 Seasons P/N 655-2377 motor from NAPA. It's the same length as the original but a little smaller diameter. All my round files are at work, so I had to drill new mount holes in the heater housing since the spacing is just a bit smaller than original.
