A friend of mine has a woodworking shop and he inserts these in novelties. He gave me the clock, I will try to find out where he gets them.

That's one cool idea and a beautiful job Ron. I've had the same problem finding a place for a clock and have had a little loose analog clock rolling around the floor for five years.
I would imagine that the wood worker supplies would have those just for those woodwork project that your friend is doing.

Can I assume that you just press fit the housing into the bore in the knob?

Thanks for posting.

Actually had time to look a few clocks up. This is a nice one and appears to be similar to the one your friend found for you. A little more research and I'm sure you could come up with lots of different styles. http://www.woodcraft.com/Family/2001202/2001202.aspx

I talked to my woodworking friend and here is where he gets some of his clocks... woodworkingparts
I got another clock from him that I am going to put on a ivory knob.

Yes, it is a friction fit, the clock housing has a rubber gasket that creates the fit. I drilled a 5/16" hole thru to the threaded insert, by doing this I can use a 1/4" dowel to push the clock out.

The manufacture says to drill a 1 3/8" hole, my hole was smaller, I just kept checking the fit until I had what I wanted.

The ivory knob was for 36-38 Buick... Ivory Knob They have one with the threaded insert which has 3/8-24 thread same as the Chevy trucks. They are plastic but look nice, they mill a lot easier than the black bakelite.
