Hi,
Does anyone know the original block color of the 283 v8? Chevy orange, or the silvery blue? Mine is in need of a paint job!

thanks

I think the 283 went out of production before the blue came in. So, my vote is orange.

neither orange or blue, most commonly gray - http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/2010/02/engine-paint/

Thanks for the leads... I thought the current chevy orange (that's peeliing) was correct but it seems not to be. I found this info (thank you squeeze)
1960 Truck 235 Blue Gray
1960 Truck 261 Green
1960 Truck 283 Trademaster Green
1960 Truck 283 Taskmaster Gray
1960 Truck 348 Gray

so I'm looking at green or gray (283). Any idea as to the shades of green or gray i'm looking at? And any ideas on the best engine block paint to use?

Thanks in advance

Thanks gang.... I think i'm gonna go with the chevy v8 orange since the truck is baby blue and the gray and green engine colors aren't the nicest.

Thanks

If it was a TargetMaster replacement engine it would have been black. That's about all I remember. This engine color thing drives me crazy. I'm with Scott. Your engine, your money = your choice.

I suppose it would depend on the intentions. If one was trying to go back to OEM appearance, the getting the engine color correct would be very important, especially if the vehicle is being entered into a judged competition. However, for a daily driver or non-original truck, then I agree 100% with the paint it how you want it mindset. That's what I did.
