The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Making a Stovebolt Bed What Year Is This Box?

I am in need of rear fenders for my 42 3/4 ton as well as front bed panel and tailgate. I currently have some pretty good 3/4 bed sides already. I found this box trailer locally for $50 bucks...looks like it may be a 40-46 box but it is a little hard to tell. Heck, maybe it isnt even Chevy! Any guesses. I dont mind doing body work but just wondering if you guys think this box is worth the $50 before I buy it. Thanks for opinions.

Looks like the tailgate says GMC.

Also, guessing 41-47 due to the fact that the riveted supports for the fender are located directly in the center of the fender. I believe earlier models had the fender support about 3/4 of the way to the rear of the fender.

I think as long as the fenders aren't rusted through the flanges they are easily worth $50, Just my opinion.

Thanks for info Jeff...and good eye on the GMC on the tailgate. I think you may be right about that, too bad as I was hoping to use the tailgate as well.

The fenders look wide. 1939 ONLY fenders are wider than the '40-'47 fenders. The bed for '39 and earlier is only 45 inches wide as opposed to 48 inches for '40 and later.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I emailed the guy and he is going to measure the width of the tailgate in the next day or so and get back with me. Come to think of it, the tailgate seems embossed with GMC which would make this box more that likely a 1939 or earlier. Looks like I may have to keep looking.

i WOULD BUY THAT IN A HEARTBEAT! Those tires in the back are worth $50. Buy it! Worst case scenario: none of the parts fit your truck and you have an extra trailer.

For $50 I would jump all over that. If nothing else it would be a cool trailer to pull with your truck when you get it done.
