however what did remain was enough to show me that the had been spot welded in place.
I'm wanting to buy some new black steel bed angle strips and re-weld these to the side panels before paint...just gotta make sure they are at the right elevation to set on top of the wood bed once installed.
Does anyone have a dimension regarding placement of these?

I think you need the wood to set the side pieces, at least thats the way I did mine.

If so, the angle strips need to leave room for the bed wood between the cross rails and the strips. Remember, take into account any milling done on the edge of the boards under the strips.
Sorry I don't have specifics, but that's the geometry of the situation.

Just reading the way Joe H has his set is not like mine is so there may be a few choices.

I think I have what you need. I have '51 1/2T which is short bed - yours is same thing but long bed. I took mine off last week and measured from the fender attachment bolt holes down to the angle.
I have pictures that I can post tomorrow with the dimensions.
