I need to remove my driverside latch assembly from the door so I can replace the spring that holds up the outside handle . I got all the screws out and the outside handle off , the latch is loose and wobbles around but I can't see whats still keeping it from coming out .

The steel window channel guide needs to be removed as well. There are two screws that are about 1/2 way down on the door and sometimes another one inside just below window level holding it in.

Please let me know how this works out. I mean. How you replaced the spring. Did this resolve your problem. And where did you get the spring.

I have the same problem with only my drivers door's outside handle.

Ok , I got it . It was the channel blocking it from coming out . I seen these springs in the "Classic Parts" catalog for $4.95 - told my buddy I needed to get one and he gave me a handful of the coiled type springs said "see if one of these works" I lucked out and now it works great . My old spring was broken and half gone - its a wonder the handle came up at all before !

Sounds good. I have the drooping drivers handle on my 48 and wondered if spring replacement was worth it.
