49Bolt, welcome to the Stovebolt.
You will need to pull the cover off the rear end. Once inside there is a square looking block that goes between the spider gears/end of the axles, that a bolt must be removed and then the "block" taken out.
Then once you do that you can push in on the offending axle which will be enough to let a metal "C" clip fall down that is around the end of axle and otherwise keeps the axle in when you put it back together. Once you do that you simply pull the axle out of the housing.......that is if your 49 is like my 52 which I think it is.
Also it helps to purchase a shop manual and an assembly manual from one of the vendors. They are about 20-25 dollars.
