So I've blasted all the parts, the spreaders, springs, shoe guides, and bunch of pieces I don't know the name of! Pretty much everything inside the drums.

These pieces didn't look painted before - should I paint them now? Were they treated before I blasted them?

Those parts would have been raw metal. You can paint to protect them but it really wouldn't matter.

...I've notices a lot of the "hardware kits" are painted these days. I guess no particular reason but I do paint mine. If I live long enough to have to redo them then the parts will clean up like new....in a jiffy!

I think after the blasting they will rust pretty quickly. I painted my links with Cast Blast, the springs black and the backing plate black. With all the trouble that you go to it is nice to have a good looking assembly when you are done.

I`m doing my brakes right now and I painted all the inside parts White so it is easy to see every thing. The out side is going Black.

I believe that when they redo brake parts they use a water base paint on them. I paint mine with any leftover colors I have. I like gold shoes and black springs and silver levers.
