Start by soaking all the pins and bolts with your favotite lube spray. Do this for a few days before going after the assembly. As far as remember, its bolted under the dash with a couple of 5/16" screws and nuts, the handle has a screw in it, and the windshield has a pin in it. Not much to it other then being under the dash.

I have removed and reinstalled the one on my 37 1/2 ton pickup without removing the dash.

tcox you do know all it takes to get the dash off are the 4 bolts (2bolts and nuts on each side) lift up a little bit and pull back (not hard or far)and you should be able to access the bolts you need to get to. It might be a 20 minute job at most. Oh don't forget to unscrew the crank handle first. Good luck

Yes, it does need to be loose, but, as I stated, the windshield crank mechanism can be removed without removing the dash.

Add me to the list of doing it without the dash out. Mine is a 37 but same as the 38. You have to be a bit flexible but it will come out without taking the dash out.

I'd almost bet the two screws holding the mechinism under the dash will come loose easier than those 4 dash screws. Those suckers can be a booger. I finally gave up on one dash and ground the heads off!! (should have welded a nut to the top of them!)

On those two screws under the dash be sure to use a thick wide blade screwdriver so you don't booger them up....or at least thats what mine had.
