I've got a 61 longbed stepside and I'd like to add a spare tire rack to "masquerade" the long, "blank" area of the bed between the cab and rear fenders. I had the rack also but it sold fast but watch out for rusted out racks. Sweet.. my build thread posted as a reference. :-) Best way to tell the difference in the fenders is to compare the bottom of the cut-out with the wheel opening in the fender. The lower spare tire location on the long bed fender looks better, IMHO

Looks like there is enough space to do that. I once owned a 61 short-bed. It was one of the best trucks I ever had. Probably running around on the streets of Houston Tx to this day. I presently have a 62' in great shape and love it!
