The members here at Stovebolt are very helpful. I have read many postings and the help you extend to the members is second to nun. I am new to the old truck area ,I have spent the last 40 years in the muscle car and race car hobby area.The resteration work is less stressful so far. Hope to be of some help to others here and I know I am going to be asking for your advice in a couple of areas.

Welcome Chuckster. Wisconsin rapids here. You are right lot's of help on the bolt. Where are you located?

I run a 235" dragster at Union Grove and Byron IL . My car and truck itreast started in the late 60s.at a AMC and Dodge dealership in Plymouth . That was the end of a normal life. LOL Started Racing a 67 Dodge Charger at Plymouth.In 75 I bought my first pick up and have driven a truck since then. My intrest in the 40s and 50s trucks have always been there I just never did anything about it. The Racing expence and DOT requirments have caused me to look in the Old Truck direction. I find it to be much more relaxing.I have pictures but have to figure out how to post them.

Before I go any further I have to say you people are alot more friendly than the Racing people. The Stovebolt Forum seems to have the Best group yet. The 49 I have in the shop was an accident,I answered a local Craigs list ad for help with a Dream. I am the kind of person who will help people anywhere anytime so when i saw the ad I knew I had the skills and shop to help him. When I answerd his ad I explained that what he was looking for would fit into my hobby. The biggest Challenge for me has been the mix of parts in this type of truck. It has a 77 Camaro front clip from the firewall forward. The 5 speed trans is out of a S10 the bellhousing is from a Vette with a fork to actavate the clutch. My friend wants the master cylinder and booster on the engine firewall along with the clutch master. Its been a challenge to find the best way least cost way to help him since I feel like I am filling in the blanks. Of course I have to seperate the past 19 years of Drag Racing car design.
My plans now are to finish this and then purchase my own 40s-50s truck. I plan on going the factory stock way,no mix and match of parts. I dont need to have the power under the hood on Great Old Truck. But its always an opption . LOL Darn Racing Bug. For those who ask where I am in Wisconsin ,Look on the Map for a small little town Greenbush. If your ever looking for a nice place to take a ride to The Kettle Moraine State Forest is in this area with lots of great old roads . The Wade House is a great place from back in the Stage Coach days, If your going to be in the area or you ever need some help let me know.

My wife and I were just in your area a week ago. We had a gift card for Curlys at Lambo. We took the Packer stadium tour and enjoyed it. Its better in person than on TV. Do you know a guy who races from De Pere Bruce Van Straton Bought one of my cars from him.Do you ever go to Iola or Jefferson?

I don't know the guy, Van Straton is a fairly common name around here. Not into racing at all, just the old stuff. I have been to Iola a couple times but never Jeferson.

Chuck, you want to help us... and we want to help you....and others. Just doesn't get any better. I spent many years around racing as my brother built racing engines for years.... but then I got smarter and gave it all up for some kids, a profession and OLD TRUCKS Sadly the old trucks had to wait until they were all out of school/college!!

BBQ ,Hot Dogs,Darn your are making me hungry.Do you ever see Johnsonville Brats in the store? They are a favorite around here and Made about 7 miles from my home.We call it a fry out but I think most areas call it Grilling. We eat them on hard rolls LOL not old nasty dried up rolls !! Something from the area. Brats on the charcoal fired grill ,some like to add onions ,pickels,brown mustard,and ketchup.Then the Budweiser Beer. Great for the heart. NOT!!! just Good. I spent some time in Huntsville Alabama and learned about lots of great food.
What trucks do you or have you had?

Chuck, a good while back I had a 50 AD and a 46. Both half tons. Now I have a 37 1/2 ton and a 52 half ton panel about 3/4 finished.

You'll notice on the bottom of most all post a link to the bolters vehicles. Just click on them and you can follow their progress.

Sheb. co., spent some of my youth there, Camp Anokajig on little lake elkhart, Road Amer. corner worker '73-'76 SCCA timing &scoring '79-'81, Elkhart Lake diners, drive-ins &dives,though the drive-in was the A&W in Ply. I think.
Sheb. hard rolls for brats, the best!, not Wonder Bread stuff, not boiled bagel stuff either, somewhere in between. Bread shouldn't be that local, we've always had sheb. hard rolls avail. in Racine. But try to buy a kringle in Greenbush!
Kettle Moraine N & S are beautiful, Old Wade house, cool, I've often wished the old stage stops around here weren't turned into taverns.
There are several "local" places W/parts, tin around here is relative, rust is everywhere, 'how much' is the question.

You have hit on lots of the good old places. Road America has changed alot from the 70's I use to spend every race weekend out at the track from Fri.-Sunday.Remember when they had the Friday night car tech at the County shed? The A&W is now called Chesters.The Food is the same just a owner change from the 70's .The Camp was almost sold but the local area's people and busisness people came up with the money to keep the property.The Osthoff replaced the Arts camp.Seapkins resort has made some much need improvments. The old bar and dinning area is still there. Do you remember the great camp grounds for the June Sprints.
The old tin is pretty hard to find locally there are a couple guys doing a full time car find and sell deal. Evey now and then a deal comes across Craigs list but you have to be fast.I missed out on a 54 Dodge truck a few weeks ago. If your ever in the area let me know and we can check out one of the Old places. Good to hear from you. Have a good Winter.

Chuckster, we'll be drivin' thru Nov. 1 for the Vi-queens game, we got tickets the day after the sched. was announced. Now w/ #4 in purple, I'm thinkin' about sellin'! Anyway, since they moved to 3:15 start, there will be no stoppin' around to visit, I've got to be at work Mon.6a.m.
We used to frequent Firemans park C.G.& Jaycees C.G. when we were working, Plymouth Rock when we were watchin', WHEW! glad we made it out of there alive! The sprints were always our fav., 'till they started the vintage weekend with the same cars we watched when they were new!
Probably won't return 'till spring, hope to get together then. Try to survive winter, PM me with updates 'till then.
