Gang,

I've been looking all over my little town for the exhaust studs to fit my 53 216 engine. Can't seem to find them anywhere. NAPA, Lowes, O'reileys look at me like I have two heads, we don't have an Ace hardware. Does anybody know where I can get them.

They should have head them at either parts store. Thise studs are just 3/8" NC thread studs, nothing really special.

Most of the FLAPS here have nut and bolt drawers so You can find what You need Your self in one section they will have studs for exhaust they are black and come in inch and metric so just match up what You need ,like Longbox55 said nothing special .

... just make sure you put some anti-sieze on them and make sure they are not the cheap ones. They will twist off the first time you ever take the exhaust loose.

Just a tip..get the BRASS exhaust stud nuts...it makes life SO MUCH EASIER a yr or 10 down the road.

I'll second that Tim. I just pulled the exhaust pipe off my manifold last week and thanks to the guy that last installed an exhaust system, it had brass tall nuts on it. I was anticipating a battle and all I got was a little squeak as they spun right off, making me one happy camper. Ya see, I'm camped out under that truck most of the time the last three years.

O'Reilly and Autozone both carry Motormite (Help!) products.
If you can't break through their mental fog any other way, ask for Motormite #03112. It's 3 2-1/2" studs (3/8-16), 3 brass nuts and 3 lockwashers. That's one more than you need, but it will get you out of the store with your parts. If you're using the donut gaskets, you might need #03113, which is the same kit with 3-1/4" studs.

with brass, does the anti-geeze become a moot point?

Actually it does in a way. The steel thread is not going to get distorted or torn up by the brass so the brass really has nothing to tear up its thread as long as the thread aren't all rusted up. Steel on steel or similar metals in general, will gaule both pieces this is where the anti-seze is especially needed. But it never hurts to use anti-seze on any threaded fastener. The brass nuts just spun right off on my exhaust after being on for at least a couple of decades, but I alway wire brush real good, any exposed thread before I try removing any fastener.

I love the anti-seize. I even on my hubs where the wheel is doing to mate. It won't rust. I hadn't heard about the brass nuts. Are they specially exhaust nuts? Do they have a grade indicated?

not sure about the grade indication but they are not "special" exhaust nuts. Just be sure to ask for the "tall" ones.

Oreilys to the rescue. They had the kit installed them all is well for now. Thanks to all who responded.
