Kirby has finally made some trips to the track. He has made about 6 1/4 mile passes and 8 or 10 1/8 mile psses. We must have made some good guesses on the set up because he has run straight and hard every pass - or at least every pass the driver did his job!!
Kirby weighs just over 3000 lbs with the driver (me) and his best 1/4 mile time was out at the Gasser Reunion race in Ohio. He ran 11.72 at 113 mph. One of the pictures is of our last run against a very nice '55 Chevy "gasser" style car. I love the car but couldn't help but enjoy "blowing his doors off" - OK, maybe we didn't blow his doors off but on that pass he ran 11.93 and we ran 11.73. We definitely got there first.
He may not be fast in comparison to the mega engined street cars that folks are building these days but for a little old 6 cylinder in a 1950 pickup he does OK for himself.

If you haven't had a chance to read the Update on Kirby - here's a link to a video my son put together on our '50 Chevy pickup with a well done 292. It has no power adders and runs a Jerico 4 speed. It ran a best of 11.72 at 113 mph at a race out in Ohio. Great fun!

Excellent video! Looks like you're having a blast!
It's all too easy to get the big numbers by 'throwing' a V8 in.(Me included!) blush
I'm afraid my old Stovebolt 6 had thrown a 'leg out the bed'.(It was easier, and cheaper over here to get a V8) Honest!
There's definately a trend towards sticking with a six!
Maybe my next one.......
Well done! thumbs_up

Ratdog,
I had that concern. The weight distribution is 56% front, 44% rear (which is actually better than I thought it was going to be). The chassis is the original '50 pickup that we boxed and added some cross members. The front end is a Heidt's kit with disc brakes. The rear end is Chassis Works laddar bar/coil over shock kit. I can't really explain it but the truck just plants and goes. We must have gotten something right in the set up. If you are a drag racer you know that 60' times are how you measure how well a car launches. On a good track the truck will pull consistent 1.50's for 60' times. That is comparable to a friend with a well set up '68 Chevelle that runs high 10's. I am thrilled with the way the truck launches and runs straight and hard.

Kirby, our 1950 3100 racing truck, was out of commission for a while. Actually, we blew up the engine last summer and had to start with a new block through the winter. It turned out to be for the better. The new engine makes slightly less peak HP but more torque. Kirby seems to like that. Hi best pass with the original engine was an 11.73 @ 114.25 mph. In far less than ideal conditions this summer he ran 11.60 @ 114.91 on the only day we made it to run the 1/4 mile. While we were there my wife caught a shot of me leaving the line. I hope the picture comes through - if you look closely you'll see air under the front wheel.

That extra torque's sure wrinkling up those sidewalls! thumbs_up

Well "Walter & Kirby," I didn't know a inline six could go so fast. I'm not into racing mine but you guys seem to know what you are doing. We each have our own thing but you seem to have a grip on yours. Good luck with the trucks. Both look good to me. Steven
