Yes, you would turn the template over when marking the other side. I understand the fear associated with drilling these holes. Mark the holes with chalk and then place the lamps holders over the holes (to assure yourself that the location is correct). I used Tim's template to drill the holes and they fit perfectly. I can't vouch for the stud location on the reproductions but I would check if there are any differences between the stud locations on the template and the repro before i did any drilling.
