Hello everyone. My name is Jeff and I have just purchased my first Stovebolt. It is a 1942 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. I found the truck in sunny Arizona. The truck is going to be delivered to me in cold, snowy Ohio in a few weeks. I am planning to do a slow cosmetic restoration on the truck with my three sons. I want to be able to drive it while we work on it. I plan to give the truck a non-original makeover. Nothing crazy, but I want to make it look unique. I have placed photos of the truck on the website listed below. I will update the photos as I make progress on the truck. Any comments along the way would be appreciated. Please look at these pics and let me know what your impressions are of the truck. This is my first one and I bought it sight unseen. Oh well, I own it now.

Welcome,Jeff. Looks like you have a good, solid starting point. Should be an easy "non-original makeover".Everythings there.
Youre lucky to have found a '42 in such complete and together condition. Theres plenty of folks here to lend their knowledge and experiences.
One thing tho,(just my opinion) those wheels have GOT to go.
Good luck on your's and son's project.

Hello Jeff,

Your '42 looks to be in great shape. You were fortunate to find a restoration candidate that nice. Quite often they are very rough (like mine). grin

This is the best place to get answers.

Welcome to the "Bolt", we're glad to have ya.

John

Jeff,

Man, you've got a '42 with really good bones!! What a great find!! thumbs_up The Arizona climate helped preserve it for sure!!

Delux54panel is right! Those wheels don't look right, especially if you plan to remain stock.

Ohio eh? I grew up in Northeast Ohio near Painesville. You near there?

Great truck. Welcome to the Bolt. Have fun restoring it and let me know if there is anything that I can help you with. I have literally thousands of photos that I took during my restoration as reference for me as well as others. Feel free to check my web page listed below as a resource.

Welcome stotman! That is one nice lookin truck. Hard to believe it looks that good. You got a jump start on most people. I think the coolest thing is your plan to build it with your boys! That is just awesome. I would have loved it if my Dad had been able to do that with me and my 2 brothers. That is something those boys will never forget. Good Luck and welcome aboard the stovebolt.

Welcome Jeff, Looks like you've got yourself a 'keeper'.

What a great way to spend time with your boys, and as the other folks have already said you can talk about it for years to come.

If you haven't already done so, check out Sheridan's resto log.

You couldn't ask for a more comprehensive log on the trials and tribulations of restoring an old 'bolt. It should keep you on the straight and narrow!

Good luck!

I just want to thank everyone for all of the kind words and encouragement. It would be an understatement to say I am very excited to get this truck. I have twin boys who are 11 and a younger son who is 9. We have already started looking into powder coating guns and other cool truck restoration tools.

I know I will call upon the collective knowledge of the group to help me along. The great thing about a hobby like this is you make a lot of new friends along the way.

Most people who restore old trucks like other old things. I used to restore old tractors and then I started restoring old arcade games. If you have not done so already, take a look on my website and click on view complete profile and check out my other restoration pics. Some of those old arcade games are pretty cool.
