Hey there guys...just another newby here from Idaho with a '58 big window. Hope someone can help me with this situation. I just bought a '69 Camero rear end to put into my truck and will be installing a TH400. What is the best solution for a driveline? Will the original Camero driveline fit right into the TH400? Lil' help here in Idaho. Tired of spending the BIG bucks at the rod shop since this is my third project. Thanks, Steve from Idaho

Hi bigdog, I too have a 58' but its not a big window =( but I do have a piece of advice for you. even if the splines on the drive shaft fit the rear end and trans the length and drive angles may be askew. so what i would do is measure the distance between the tail comb (output shaft tip) of the transmission and and the yoke of the differential (after installation of course). take this measurement carefully and with info on your diff type and size along with trans info (type) and go to your local diff/driveline shop and they will either fabricate one for you or customize yours. if you are lucky enough the original driveline will fit but those chances are very slim. if at all possible let them make the measurement each shop has dissimilar procedures. However on the other hand if the yoke splines on the drive shaft fit splines on the trans then all you need to worry about is length. be careful if measuring the driveline itself because some shops measure from weld to weld and others from the center of the u-joint bearing caps at each end. hope this helps.

Hello bigdog58,

Torque Wrench is right on, the chances are very slim that your drive shaft will work as is. You won't know for sure, until you get the rear end mounted and give it a try. Your local drive shaft shop should tell you what measurements are needed.

Welcome to the Stovebolt

John

Hello, Steve... I can't help you with your driveline question but I'd like to offer up a big and hearty Welcome to the 'bolt cool

You might want to check out the Engine and Driveline Forum & also maybe try a search & see what you come up with. Here is a link to a Tech Tip for getting the best results when doing a search (it is from the IT Short Bus Forum) wink

You're in a good place with good folks, make yourself at home.

Hey Bigdog58, and welcome to the Bolt.Spicer makes various driveshaft end yokes for different trans and rears. Measure twice and cut once.
