I also have a V8 in my 62 pickup I also have the 261 that came out of it. It's a 350 punched out to 355 with Keith Black Pistons, Comp Cam, Proform Roller Rockers 1.5 to 1 21/2" GM. Rams Horn Manifolds, Street Damper, True Roller Timing chain, Preformer Intake, 600 CFM Carb, Aluminum Water Pump all by Edelbrock, GM Fuel Pump, Lokar Shifter and the engine Balanced with a GM 400 Tranny to a 373 ratio 12 Bolt GM Limited Slip Rearend. This truck is going to be a daily driver and to pull my fishing boat. It will have approx. 300HP. I consider this a non hotrod truck. Now you all know when you get started on a project like this it has to be laid out before hand. The other stuff I have done to the engine to make it run better and make it last was to send the exhaust manifolds in to have them powder coated with high heat retention coating which makes the exhaust run cooler in the engine compartment. Griffen Aluminum with Spal Fan for cooling and B&M Trans Cooler for the trans cooling I have spent $7000.00 on the truck chassie and other equipment like AC etc. so far and $2500.00 on the rebuild and parts for it. The engine will resemble a 1960 engine rebuild. So that is that so far and hope to be able to post my pics of the truck in progress soon. I hope you guys do not think I am braging about what I have done as I just like to tell people what can be accomplished on a tight budget.

I have a Chevy 350 in one and a Cadillac 500 mocked up in another. If I can include the ones too new for Stovebolting I have another 350 and two 454's.

I also have another Cadillac 500 currently surrounded by a Cadillac, but I think its going to find its way into a truck someday too.

Mine all have 350 v-8,s. The first thing I do when I get a truck is order a new Goodwrench engine for it. Then I go from there.

Yes it is. TPI will bolt up to 283, 327, 305, 350, just about any SBC.

many people shy away from such set-ups, saying they use too much gas, hard to tune etc.
But ya just can't beat the look of a tunnel ram!

Tunnel Rams are cool, but I'd like to see a truck with a Smokey Ram in it. That would probably square up to the inner fenders nicely and fill the engine bay up something sweet.

I'm shopping for a 3.8 liter dual overhead cam Jag engine (I-6) to build into a stovebolt. The sports car racing team I hung out with back in college had a 55 1st. series short bed for a pit truck with a Ferarri V-12 in it. That one got everybody's attention, especially since it had the original straight front axle and drum brakes all around! The rear axle was out of a Jag XK-140, and the trans was a Colotti 5-speed.

Very true on the stovebolt description. Once you go to V/8 power it is no longer or probably never was a stovebolt. The term stovebolt was used for the old Chevy sixes, many years ago.Probably the 1929 version.Which at the time surpassed Ford in horsepower as Ford was still using the straight 4 cyl engines of that era.Of course in 1932 Old Henry put it to Chevy with the new flathead V/8.

I am 100% with you on that Ron. My '59 was already in a "butchered" state when I bought it. I just want to get it running and back on the road.

The Atlas 6 would be cool, real cool.
