I thought I'd go ahead and prime the oil pump since the motor hadn't been started in awhile. I rented the tool from Autozone and attached to my drill and began what should have been a very simple task. To me suprise, oil began to pour from the engine! I must have lost a quart and I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. I discovered that I had left the oil pressure sending unit off the back of the motor. No problem right? Wrong!! I'm using a set of 5" Haneline guages and the sending unit will not clear the back of the intake. There were adapters that came with it but they to will not clear. I might be able to modify one of the fittings by shortening it and adding a short hose on one end and the sending unit on the other. Anybody know how much pressure will build up and if the hose will work?

I have bought the primer tool (instead of renting duh) and will be doing the same thing as you are doing. Hopefully following you through the mine field will help me avoid the lost of oil et al.

There should be a plug to remove and install the sender. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | I had thought about Wilbur's side mount above the filter but it will be a shorter run and neater fit on the back. However I'm afraid when the cab is on there won't be enough room even for a elbow fitting.

Oil Presuure reads fine. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 | There were elbows supplied with the sending unit. The problem is that the stud is too long. I'm checking for a shorter one. I didn't know about the one above the oil filter. I'll see if that gives me more room to work with.

Go to your local FLAPS as they have longer and shorter pipe nipples, 45 & 90 degree bends etc. that can be used to make it fit into a "open" area. Good Luck
