Hey Guys, I just bought a new gas tank for my 1950 1/2 ton from Yogis. It is manufactured by Tanks Inc. and only cost $225 (universal pick-up steel gas tank). It was the best deal I could find and I must say it is very nice.
Anyway, I'm thinking of sealing it before I install it on my truck. Does anyone know of a good product to seal gas tanks? Thanks for your help.

Why seal it? You just put up $225, is there a reason for concern? Do you want to seal the outside or the inside or both?

Well, I plan on keeping it for many, many years. My thoughts are an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure. Plus it is recommended by the manufacture.

I will probably seal the inside and paint the outside. I may not even worry about it depending on the cost of sealer. Any recommendation on sealer?

sbigelow. i am with phatboy why seal, stainless will last for years. but if you must go to eastwood.com that way you can check on line and save some running around. most logal parts house will haveit, napa, auto zone advance auto, what ever is in your area. ron

Problem is it is not stainless steel. Good old regular steel. I will check Eastwood. Thanks.

Don't seal it. Over time, gas will break down the sealer and it will end up in your carb. To prevent internal corrosion and rusting, keep the tank full of gas. Since it's going to be a new tank, use ethenol, it helps with moisture. Also, make sure you have a drain in the bottom of your tank for removing old gas if it gets stored for long periods of time.

The inside of your new tank will last about 50 years "as it is".

Painting the outside would look nice and protect it from the elements.

I agree. Dont seal the inside. If that stuff
starts flakeing off you have a real problem.

Plus, if you seal it and then have a problem, you may not have a warranty.

Prime and Ryhno the outside and then paint your color choice over that. Best protection!! Do not seal the inside. I am not pleased with the por 15 sealer. I took the old tank out 5 years ago and cleaned it per the directions.

#1 it sealed over the exhaust pipe and pumping gas is slow. (something I can fix but not a priority).

#2 5 years later I'm getting rusty gas and changing filters every couple of weeks.

I plan on buying the chevy duty replacement tank for may 54 for $139.00 and just painting the outside.

I vote no sealer.
