For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 11 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 11 | hello everyone, newcomers here, we just bought a truck we have both been wanting for a few years now. We just moved to kentucky from michigan and was out riding around when a local backroad farm had "GRETCHEN" outfront with a 4'x4' board that said $250 and a phone number. after about 25 to 30 phone calls i finally got ahold of the owner who said "YES it runs and drives i would take her to tenn. right now if you wanted." So I then told Mr. Hall that i would be right out to get it.
I will be asking lots of questions and hoping the wife and i can make some new friends in the process Thanks in advance for any help you give us. Thanks to Jimbo and 1946 chevy 1 for the info i already recieved, lots of help already

Be sure to experiment with the search feature in the forums.
You have to sift through to find the nuggets, but there is a lot of good information in there.
Glad to have you...

Chevy 1 Ton Duallie Dump except yours seems to have more ground clearance, and bigger wheels. I'm not sure exactly what year mine is. The cab came from a 1952 3/4 ton, and the engine from a 1954. Should be lots of fun to start with a runner. Did yours have a muffler on it when you got it?

Which I am going to drop it down with standard 16in wheels. When I put them on I dropped the truck over 2in all around which I think gives it a nicer stance. I just have to pick up a couple more tires.

jackyl i would like to see pics with the 16 inch wheels. the bolt pattern is the same as most dually truck correct? I have a guy who might have a set of 19.5 wheels i was going to try on it. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 | Hey Brian, That is a cool truck, I really like the little dualies. I'm in the process of fixing up "Big Orange" as we speak. I recently found and purchased a '53 1 ton dualie with a 235. I was going to part out but when I got it home and looked at it I can't bring myself to do it. This truck is way to nice to part out especially as it has no rust and a hoist! I should probably just find somebody who wants it. Fix yours up and have some fun with it. You can tell your engine is a 235 because of the side cover and the valve cover. The 235 was an option in the '53 models if my memory serves me correctly.

The guys are correct about the engine -- the tell-tale signs of the later (post-1954) 235 are how the valve cover attaches -- four screws on the flange versus two acorn nuts on the top of the valve cover, along with the pushrod cover that go all the way up around the spark plugs. Prior to 1954, the earlier model 235 (the splasher 235 developed for the war trucks) was optional for the 1-tons and bigger trucks -- my '49 3800 still has it's original splasher 235 that the original owner special ordered with the truck. Anyway, you got a great deal on that truck! And welcome to the Stovebolt Community! You're family now so don't be a stranger! And be sure to check out all of the web site, not just the forums. Regards, John

He is right about the rocker arm cover and the short side plate as being a dead give away to it being a full pressure 235. Again it looks like you did well. I got to drive "Gretchen" home yesterday. She was running fine till the old fuel filter clog right up. Changed it and drove around a little while, runs and drives very well. Noticed a little more rust in the floor boards so I found a guy with 3 cabs that he says are very solid with doors and windows. Going to look saturday willlet everyone know if he has alot of parts worth looking at.
