The 47.2, 48, 49 and 50 models did not have wing windows, 51 to 55.1 did. I don't have my catalog right now to check your numbers but I'm sure they offer both,

thanks,

my truck is a 48, but the doors i believe are from a 52. is it possible to switch it to 1 piece windows. looks like all i would need to do is cut off the tab on the bottom of the window opening that the wing window would mount to.

It's a whole lot more involved than that. Total reworking of the inner door is required for the switch,

Chris, if your windows are from a 52 the doors will have push button handles that came out in that year.
I know what your going through. When I got my panel it had a 1950 door on one side and 52 on the other. One with wind vent one without.

well at the moment all i have is a shell. no runners or regulators just the door itself. is all that is involved just changing the hardware or is there metal work/fab to be done.

is there a article somewhere on doing a swap like this that someone can point me to.

thanks

I've never done the conversion but I think you need to remove some of the wing window inner support metal and add the glass channels that are welded to the inside of the door. In my opinion, if you have some fab skills, it should be doable,

i do have some decent metal fab skills, so making brackets and such shouldn't be much of a undertaking.

at the moment there are no glass channels in the doors, the rear channel looks like it bolts to the side and the front looks like it would/could bolt to the other side. i can only see 1 bracket for the wing window and its the one i mentioned above, its not a major support since its not welded to the outer and inner door panels.

I may be able to find a few trucks without wing windows at the local salvage yard and see how it would be mounted and if i find any good runners, ill use them.

Hi drummin 52. I'm in the process of doing the exact opposite. 48 door no vent to 51 with vent. One thing I did notice about the 48 door which had the full pcs of glass. It has a built in channel that holds the pcs of rubber that seals out the weather right accross the full width. Now the 51 door stops short of the vent window. This means you will have to fab. & lenghtened the groove to accept the longer rubber. Remove the angle bracket that holds the vent & straighten the door skin lip. The window garnish on the 51 to 55 has a notch to line up to the angle bracket that holds the vent window, a small patch to fill in the groove is needed to make it look like the 48 to 50 door window garnish with single glass. I am by no means an expert subject just figured I would share these observation. Hope this can help. Good luck

The vent less doors have a metal frame around the window. The regulators are different. The inner window mouldings are different. The vent-type doors have a vertical channel at the front edge of the glass which also supports the rear edge of the vent window.
Obviously anything can be done but for me I would leave it as is.

So did any of you guys end up doing the conversion? I took some 53 GMC doors and 49 Chevy doors to a window guy and told him to install power and the one piece window in the 53 doors. Right after I almost choked with the $1700 quote I gave up. I came across this topic and thought my prayers were answered!!! Tell me its true....

There are a couple of sources for power windows that advertize in the truck mags. Custom Classic Truck and Classic Trucks. Both of these have adds in them. Also you can check some of the street rod mags for adds. Being this is a after market product.
Check Rez Engeering, No-Limit Engeering Truckin Mag.. I just read a artical in one of the mags here a few months back about the glass power conversation. I just found one source Brothers trucks in Corona Ca. its in their catalog! They have a website also. Hang on to your shorts as they are not Cheap to convert.
