Anybody out there have any problems with wind noise from the doors on a 55-59? I have installed new door rubber and the doors are aligned great. Driving around town is not a problem. It's when I hit the highway when it gets loud. It is difficult to listen to the stereo or have a conversation. Anybody have any cures? frown

If your doors are all sealed up and you know it's not that, then it must be your windows need new felt channels.

Hey, Doc

What do you mean when you say where is crank located when window is closed ... how does the crank position effect anything?

Your right Alan, the crank postion has nothing to do with anything.

It does if the window tends to fall back down. With the weight of the crank pulling down on the regulator, which rolls the window up, then the window will stay up. If the weight of the crank is the other way (180 degrees), it will allow the window to work it's way down as you drive along. Some windows are too tight or stiff for this to matter but I had a 64 that would roll itself down because of this.

Scott's right. I've seen that happen before.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have new felts in the windows as well as new door rubber. The windows seal up nice and the glass doesn't giggle down on a bumpy road. I can see daylight out the top of both doors. The dollar bill trick won't work there but a catalogue might. I get a good seal on the rest of the door, it's just the top. The doors are aligned nice and close great. Perhaps the door tops need to be bent in a bit.

Scott, Good point, Thanks for the info. Never gave it a thought before. I would have guessed the felt and new door rubber would have been enough to keep the glass up.

sometimes the top part does need "pulled in". I once had to put my knee against the inside panel and pull the top part of the frame in towards the cab. Solved a lot of my wind problems.

I did the dollar bill trick like Doc suggested and I have a great seal around the doors except at the sharp curves at the top of the door above the vent window and also just in front of the vent window. It is only at these sharp curved areas and I can probably manipulate the rubber to close it up. Someone suggested useing pieces of windshield washer hose to shim the weatherstripping. I haven't done it yet but sounds like a solution.

I heard a guy say once that he put a 2x4 in the bottom of the door ... closed the door against it and pushed on the top of the door. It worked for him.

Achipmunk is absolutely correct. I too have done the knee into the center of the inside of the door trick and bent the top inward with everything I had. It is amazing just how much it tightened the gap above the wing window.
