So it's almost fireworks time, I get in my truck ('57 3100) to go over to a buddy's place to watch the festivities.

I'm tooling down the freeway doing about 70, and I get a funny vibration, and then the whole truck goes sideways, which then starts spinning. I end up sliding off the road into the ditch between Vasco and First St. When I left the road the truck started to feel like it was about to roll over, but it didn't, and I came to a stop a few feet from the fence. I thought I was gonna die!!

A few people stopped to see if I was okay, I was more freaked out than anything. A Highway Patrolman stopped to see if I was okay, and give me a sobriety test to make sure I hadn't been drinking.

Turns out most of the tread on the left rear came off the case of the tire in one long strip. I picked it up! It was an older tire, but it had plenty of tread, so I thought they were fine. I'd driven on much worse before!!

Luckily, another of my buddies happened to be going my way, so he stopped and helped me out. After we got it dragged out, I was able to drive it home slowly.

I got pictures from my cell phone of the truck on the side of the road!

What a night!! Glad no one was hurt!!

Sorry to hear about your mishap, it can sure screw up a nice day. Gotta watch older tires, especially if they are recaps, which sounds like this might be the case.

The main thing is that you weren't hurt or worse. Tires can be replaced, you can't. Glad you are O.K.

This week when I was traveling I saw more shredded tires than I think I ever have. I don't know if there is something wrong with modern rubber, or if the DOT hasn't been cleaning up, but there was a lot of it everywhere.

Here we go, I didn't realize you needed to be logged in to see them.

I'm still a little shaken, just kind of happened out of the blue.

I did get whole new set of tires on it, and it seems to be mostly okay, one of the wheel bearings is beginning to make a little noise, so tonight I'm going to do a little investigating.

Keep on truckin', safely!!

i had something like that happen in my 49 3600 one day in the rain, i was doing 45-50 and hit the brakes they pulled and spun the truck around through an intersection i though i was going to roll it. so i second you on the "it scared the holy crap out of me".

but very glad to here you made it safe. are they tires any of the brands just named here in the last few weeks about tread seperating?
