I recently ordered armrests for my '56 from Classic Parts of America. They are imported by Counterpoint Automotive and I imagine all the rest of the vendors sell the same ones. There was a problem with the template provided.

I sent Classic Parts an Email detailing the problem: If any of you order armrests be sure to correct your template before drilling.

Those folks in China really don't care whether they fit or not, they just make 'em. Prolly an issue somewhere in translation, or maybe even on purpose like the tainted pet food.

I am having a similar problem with the drivers side window regulator. I couldnt get it to line up with the holes in the door so I pulled it back out and measured. The regulator is a full 1/2 inch shorter than the old one! I called Classic parts and Angel informed me that I was the second person with this problem. She was really nice and is sending UPS out to pick it up today. I told her that I want the replacement measured before it is shipped out. Its bad enough to have to pull out the window assembly in first place but then to have this frustration as well. I wouldn't buy any window regulators from them for awhile til they get this one fixed. I will let you know how it turns out. If they dont have the right one I will go to LMC truck. Five bucks cheaper!

I am with you though cletis,, when a hole dont line up it sure can create a problem..

I ordered armrests for my '54 from Classic Parts ... I didn't use their template, I made my own from the door itself, but the problem I had was with the plastic parts of the armrests. I slammed the door one cold Winter day and the armrest came off in my hand! The cold (thin, cheapo) plastic broke!

I thought the plastic looked pretty hefty at first ... but after it broke and I looked at it, it was *really* thin!

I wound up fabricating my own parts from red oak and covered everything in elk leather.

I'm much happier now.

PS - I dunno about the armrests for a '56 but the armrests for a '54 "hang" when they're mounted! You can see the details about this on my page (linked above) ... they make the armrests for a 90-degree angle but the door on a '54 is angled where the armrests mount, so you wind up with a tilted armrest! I fixed that problem as well.

I GUESS I am with Alan on this one ...i was thinkin on orderin a set as mine has NONE (custom interior) ...I guess Ill just build my own outta Hickory from work ..an say NO to the China Man @#$%$ !!!!!!!!!

Hickory sounds pretty sweet to me, man! Plus, you can make them any shape and size you want.

Nothing beats a good piece of hickory.

well when Peggy gets my update in you will see the hickory dash insert i made for my gauges , My dash was cut up bye my Unc. i got he truck from he wanted to install LED gauges but never did ...so i had a big square molded in hole to fill ...it came out pretty sweet !

I'm looking forward to seeing that!

Thanks! I'm real happy with it, too. My truck will be back with a new paint job late Summer and then I'll be doing the whole interior in elk -- hot dog!

I made mine out of 3x3x1/2" guaranteed not to break.
