can i buy separate new gril bars for a chrome chevy grill or do i have to buy a whole new grill?
as i just need the chrome really

would a new grill dismantle / breakdown smaller for easier shipping?
anyone know the weight of a grill?

I recall this being ask before and I don't think anyone knew where you could order just one bar. I would put a request in the Parts Wanted forum. Even if you get a good used bar you could then have it chromed.
I spoke with a guy once about buying/shipping a grille and he made the statement he could break it down and ship it for less because the size of the packageis considerable smaller. Unless I'm mistaken the "new" grilles come dismantled and you have to put them together with the kit. Someone mentioned shipping was $33 on a new one but not sure how far it was shipped. Hope this helps.

It can be taken apart but there's like 150 rivots that will need to be drilled out. Each of the 5 grill bars are slightly different too. So if you find someone willing to sell you parts, be sure to get the specific bars you need,

I do not think you can get individual new grill bars. If you could, I know some have said the new repro ones are not an exact match to the original ones, but the differences are slight. (If I recall the return bends at the ends are slightly different.) You do see folks at swap meets and venders with used parts selling individual grill bars. They are all different and are numbered from the top down. #4 and especially #5 bars are the hardest to find in good shape as they are the ones that get mashed the most. There are notches in the back side that identify them. I think the repro grills are selling for about $350.00 these days and I have seen restored/rechromed ones going for about $500 to $600. You hear mixed reviews on the repros, some say they look and fit better than original, others say they are crap. I do believe they all come from the same supplier. You certainly can get individual bars re-chromed. However, I think if you only do one or two, the new chrome will stand out against 50 year old chrome. Good luck.

Hey Nifty, where are the notches on the grille bars? Is it one notch for the top one, two notches for the second one down and so on? I had mine rechromed and I have heard about these notches but dont see any. I took pics of it as I was taking it apart so I could stumble thru that way but if I could find these notches life would be a lot easier. Thanks in advance. Mine was bolted together and not riveted. I bought a chrome grille from the Truck Shop last year. It shipped as 1 complete unit (I've never heard of a grille you have to assemble. The weight is around 25 pounds or so.

The new grilles come assembled! Here is a pic of a reproduction grille that fit just fine.

Somebody told me you can use bars out of the bigger truck grills in the 1/2 ton thru 1 ton trucks.. but the whole replacing a few bars seems like a giant pain in the backside.

If you got the jack, i'd just replace it with a repop grill and be done with it.

looking at buying a new chrome grill but have 2 ok used grills allready.

i want to bring this new grill back on the plane or post back to england so really only need the chrome parts was considering breaking down the grill to make smaller package and maybe toss the uprights etc to save weight. unless they will happily accept a grill in the hold without excess charges

Putting my newly replated 49 sub grille together. Bought the bolt kit from LMC. ( not chevy duty as in previous post). Found that the kit was short at least 24 nuts, bolts, washers and lock washers. No big deal but I plan to contact LMC and let them know.

ViejitosCC where did you buy your grill? You hear horror stories about reproduced grills that don't match up. I for one am not eager to do alteration work on something that cost as much as that.
