I'm curious to know if anyone has seen any impact from the new server. Is it more responsive? Less responsive? About the same? Any other comments?

Please post your comments in this thread.

I'm stuck on dial-up which is slow anyway. I haven't noticed any difference.

The day of the change, things seemed to be very slow, all day. I don't know if it was the site though. Anyhow we are all enjoying the result of your hard work!

thanks,
Fred

I found a bad link in the tech section.

I'm sorry that I didn't report it but basically it had a 192.168.1.x IP address in it.

I'll see if I can find it again.

It was the link to "How to Restore Your Chevrolet Pickup / New Edition" by Tom Brownell.

It looks like it is fixed now.

Okay,

I found a busted link.

If you're in the forums and then click the "news" link, the browser says that it's trying to link to http://192.168.2.101.

Of course, it times out.

If I want to get to the news page, I have to click the home link then the news link.

I'm on dial-up mostly... when I'm at the 'bolt and it seems to not lag or hang up as much.. or require to reload more.

maybe it's just me.

nice work baldeagle.

So, I've noticed complete site outages are more frequent lately. For example, the site wasn't here this morning at 8am MDT.

Are you guys squashing big bugs or something or are you guys falling out of the DNS servers?

Inquiring minds want to know :-)

I updated some stuff on the mail server, but I haven't touched the web server. (I'm going to have to take it down soon to recompile the kernel though.) You may be seeing "internet glitches" - routing problems between you and the server.

When you get one of those, Ezekiel, run a traceroute and save it for me. Then send it to me as an attachment.

On Windows:
tracert www.stovebolt.com > C:\tracert.txt

On Mac or Unix:
traceroute www.stovebolt.com > ~/traceroute.txt

Then email me the text file at geek@stovebolt.com

Diagnostic email sent.

It might be a short term thing that occurs at 8-ish in the morning MDT.

I dont know why, but it seems some times I have to try a few times before I can get the bolt to come up. Usually just hit refresh a time or two and she comes up though.
???

Thanks, Jeff

I've noticed that it sometime takes several minute to load the page. It was doing this bad right before you changed the server, like the week of the KC show. There were several day when i couldnt get it to come up at all. Since you changed, its slow hit and miss, but i havent had any days when it wouldnt come up. I use a DSL in my system.
