My top gear synchro on my 4-speed is worn so double-clutching makes for a smoother shift into high gear. I've actually enjoyed the extra involvement with my ride for the last 14 years of daily driving. I always joked that my left knee would go out 33% faster because of the extra use of the clutch pedal. Dang, there is a bit of a problem with my left knee!

So, any bad knees out there? If so, which one?

I too have a bad knee. Mine is a result of HS football though. My right knee has 50% of the cartiledge (sp) that it should and the ligaments are a little sloppy. The result is a knee that kinda aches sometimes and is not cleared for extreme athletic duty, but being that I am only 24 I kind of ignore it and have fun anyway! Doc says before I am 30 I will have to have some repairs, oh well. Luckily it's my gas pedal knee and not my shifting knee smile

Both my knees were replaced last October with aftermarket joints. I hope they're better than the OEM's!

I don't have knee problems, but my shifting arm (shoulder actually) has limited range of motion and that affects both shifting and steering.

Someday I'll convert to an automatic and power steering to make it easier to deal with.

1997 got hit head on by a drunk. Left knee shattered and "pinned" back together. 2000, and elderly fellow runs stop sign and busted up....well, you guessed it. The left knee again. More surgery, more(?) pins. Then TODAY I was going down the steps on the back deck and one of them broke and I fell. Not the left knee this time but the Right one. Man it is hurting. I've been banged up, sewed up and pieced back together so many times in my life a gentleman at church calls me Bro. Crash.....and when I got married he calls my wife Sister Crash!!!

I will trade x-rays for speed equipment! Actually I can check my carb float without taking the cover off. Just getting over shoulder surgery myself. Its either my age or to much radiation. One thing I learned, don't let your employer do your surgery.
Cheers

Bad left knee from bad snowmobile accident. Other than that, sore feet from working on concrete all day and a sore back for thinking I was Superman when I was younger. Also have the typical artheritis aches and pains from my advanced years,

I got a bum right knee i dislocated it once when i was 15 when I rolled my atv. I had been used to motorcyles, so when it started to go over, i put my foot down to stop it. Bad idea. I did the second time painting the roof of the '55.Fell off the frame rail. I was more concerned about the dent I put in the cab than my knee. Half the time I shift without the clutch anyway.

I am scheduled for a right knee replacement surgery one month from tomorrow. Both need it and they are starting on the right. Arthritus, sports injuries plus my weight have been working against me for a while now. I'm not looking forward to the recovery, but I am looking forward to the better mobility. My kids are only 9 and 13, they deserve a dad that get out and play for more than a few minutes at a time.

I do have to say I have two vehicles that require double clutching. A 1940 truck and a 1960 Austin Healey. I rather enjoy the activity. It is a matter of pride to make the gears as quite as possible. I will admit that sometimes in heavy traffic or forgetting to come to an almost complete stop before reaching for first, I have made my share of grinding.

Hopefully soon the knees won't be grinding, that will leave me to work on being more careful with my gears.

Know what your talking about regarding leg and arm injuries. I know it was nothing serious, but back in college I got a deep thigh bruise on my right leg when I dove for a loose ball and hit another guy's knee. The next game, I got kneed pretty hard in the same spot, and no amount of Ben-Gay, etc. helped after that. With the high pedals on the truck stopping became a real chore.

I also am fighting through two injured shoulders (the left one was so much fun, I decided to pop the right one a couple of weeks later). I don't have problems turning the steering wheel, much to my surprise, but shifting is somewhat painful.

I also have done damage to both knees and ankles from sports, goofing around, and just plain accidents. A few years ago, it got to the point that I had to give up serious hiking, and I've put on about 50 extra pounds since, which of course makes my knees hurt even more.

About the only thing left for me is working on the truck. Hopefully, I will get better at that than I was at sports.

Fifteen years as a letter carrier for the U.S.Postal Service did most of my right knee damage. As I would leave a mail box on my 8.9 mile walking route I would pivot on my right leg. Two Ibuprofen every 3 hours got me through the daily grind and kept most of the inflammation tolerable. Ibuprofen is my friend.

In 1997 I decided to leave the postal service before I had further damage. Thankfully I now have inflammation only on occasion. This weekend has been one of those occasions.

I just had surgery on my left knee after many years of problems. Doc says only time will tell if I need to get a new one.
