Yours looks almost identical to mine as far as condition goes.Mine is a 53 Chev 1/2 ton 1300,Canadian model.It is the same as a 3100 American model.It is very good that it came with all the parts you need to make it a truck, plus a few cool chrome optional parts.With mine, I did all the metal work and body work on the cab and simply replaced every single sheet metal body part with rust free pieces that I found at the antique car swapmeets..I simply spent all my time finding the best deals instead of spending it welding and repairing.I hope to get it running soon and then it's off to the paint shop.Good luck on yours. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 113 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 113 | Say, is that R2D2 riding shotgun in the bed?!
Yours has a bit more body-rot than mine did, but I'm betting that you'll find replacement tin easier to find than I have for my '37.

One thing I learned ...Take your time and ask a lot of questions. Not to give them a big head but these guys know everything about these trucks.

I too would suggest Harmon's, they have always given me good service. American Classic ans Classic Parts of America (Chevy Duty) are good as well. You will want to consider hitting the swap meets for parts too, you can find good deals on parts, especially the ones that are not being reproduced. I would suggest the Hoosier swap meet at the Marion Co. Fairground in Indy. It's on Sept.14-16. There's always a good turnout of venders, including Harmon's.

My advice is to take a ton of pictures, and label carefully everything you remove. We didn't have digital cameras when I started, but if we did, I would have filled several CD's with pictures.
The people on this site are very willing to help, and don't be afraid to ask even those questions you think are dumb. They're not.
