It is all stock with about 80,000 miles on it. The transmission fluid has never been changed. I would like to switch the transmission fluid out with new synthetic fluid. I have always heard that if Trans fluid has never been changed, then you will cause all kinds of hate and discontent changing it out. Any information on the matter would greatly be accepted. Most tranny shops sell an aerosol can w/hose made for this- You screw it into where one of the cooler lines goes and leave the other side open and push the button, this'll clean out the cooler.
What you are going for is to get all the fluid out AND all the dissolved bits of clutch/friction plates...
You should definately change the filter/gasket and think about putting some 'tranny flush' fluid in the tranny before draining it. That'll help get all the fluid out and reduce possible problems from mixing new syn with the older stuff.
What Gazim says about draining the converter too is spot on, in some converters there is a drain plug for that purpose.
It might be easier to have someone else do this for you. I believe tranny shops have a special machine to do the swap and don't charge that much to do it.

That's the only way to get the fluid changed, even then there's a little "mixing" of the old and the new, but it changes the majority of it. I would worry too much about the synthetic stuff, a TH350 will work well on standard ATF,
