I've done this before but it makes me smile each time...
I was sitting in traffic and some kid in a dark colored Honda with tinted windows and too much bass pulled up in the next lane on my right. His front end was about even with the front of my back tire. The radio was way too loud - show-offy loud. My truck, a '97 GMC pickup with true dual exhaust uses Moroso Spiral Core mufflers on 2-1/2 inch pipes. I put the truck in neutral and revved it up. His window was about even with the back of my truck and my truck can get loud when revved. I figure he never thought he was going to hear anything else but his own music in that car but he must have heard me because his radio volume went down before we got the light. I'm glad he was smart enough to get the hint.

There is a girl that lives next door and has her car radio cranked all the time. I would love to take a huge payloader, scoop it up and take it out back and bury it in the old gravel bank. The radio is worth more than the car, so it would be a few hundred dollars well spent.

Stereos, loud ricers, and loud bikes annoy me. I like to roll down my window and signal for the guy in the car with the loud stereo to roll his down. Then, he turns his stereo down, rolls his window down, and I ask him very quietly if he is hard of hearing.

It is also funny to signal to them that they have a flat tire. The will pull over, kick all of their tires, realize you were just messing with them, and curse you.

Joe, I hear ya. When I first bought my '54 it had a 1300watt pioneer system in it. I tossed my lil brothers cabinets in behind the seat and went out to a couple cruises. You'd be surprised how many people tell you to turn it up when your pounding out some SRV or and Jimmi!

IF it's too loud, you are too old..

But, when the concussion is pounding the back of my head from two cars back, it's a bit much.

There's nothing like cranking the radio up when "Highway to Hell" comes on..

Back when I bought my 69 Camaro, the first thing I did was go get a Craig 8-track and Jensen 6x9's. I suppose you could hear Foghat or Terrible Ted from pretty far away, but then with headers and Corvair turbo muffler exhaust whacked off at the rear axle, it was pretty loud anyways.

We were all young and dumb at one time.

I know my memory is flakey, but I recall that me and my buddies would turn it down at traffic lights. If the car next to us was full of kids, the volume stayed up, but if it was little old ladies, we'd roll it down. Times (and respect) have changed.

The loudest car stereo I have ever heard was designed, built and owned by a guy in his 60's. In a Civic Hatchback. Beautiful install. WAAAYYY too loud, IMHO. But he had a reason - he was nearly deaf from construction work with no hearing protection!!!

My el camino has won several awards for sound imaging as well as SPL in my power level. However, at 300 watts you cannot hear it coming from down the block (darn V-Force mufflers) but 133db is plenty loud in the cab.

My theory - if you want it loud - design it so it is so inside the cab, not outside.

During this past summer we had a guy with a pretty nice Jeep Grand Cherokee, dark green with big chrome wheels and low profile tires drive through our neighborhood with all his windows down AND his rear hatch up – with the radio cranked. I like loud music too, Metallica and the Beasty boys can never get too loud, but this guy was looking for an audience. You have to admit it takes stones to do that.

Around here revving your engine means you want to race.

The last time I got in trouble for being too loud was messing around with my Marshall 4x12 cabinet with a 200W tube head in my old apartment. That thing was really loud, but even with it turned down it still carried too far.

I used to do woodworking in my kitchen in that place, too, but nobody ever complained. I would run a router with a shop vac hooked up with the workpiece clamped to the kitchen counter.

Heck, I crank the stereo equipment to irritate my own kids, but it is real music though. If I wanted to hear what those ghetto cruisers and rice rockets are blasting, I'ld put a barrel in the back of my truck and beat on it with a 5lbs. sledge.

I guess I wouldnt be to like by many of you.

I had a Reg Cab pickup with 2 Infinity Perfect 12 inch subwoofers, being pushed by a 1200w Bass Amp. I also had 2 other amps for my mids and highs.

I was hitting 140 decibels easily. So much that I actually broke my rear window at a contest. Now you couldnt stay in the cab with the volume up, but I did cruise around town with it.

If I was out in the open daylight I wouldnt turn it down unless I saw a cop. Other then that I didnt care. However with that said, if it started to get late I had enough respect for people to turn it down as well.

Loud music is fine if you spend a little less on your system and a little more on sound deadener for you door panels so they don't rattle so darn much, and o ya ccr rocks

My neighbor took a brick and chucked it through the back window of a kid's Mitsu Eclipse recently because the little jerkwad wouldn't turn the crap down. The kid stopped and threatened him. That lasted about as long as it took the kid to see the neighbor's 9mm Glock in his waistband. Kid backed off quick and he hasn't been around for a while. Fear and a healthy respect for firepower is a good thing.

Some car shows have a special "category" for loud radio/stereo systems. They crank it up and the loudest gets the trophy. Pity the poor ordinary guy who has his classic parked next to that area. When a string quartet of students was playing on the sidewalk at a local show, some bozo tried to upset them by cranking his car radio up. The show organizer persuaded him to leave.

My daily driver '90 Talon has a good stereo in it. However, what none of those idiots out there thumping along get is that design trumps power ANY day. It's always fun to drive past a crowd of them with more and better sound while blasting something like Johnny Cash instead of something that is nothing but bass... grin

We live on a corner property,1200 foot of road frontage.I can hear those thumping cars coming from a 1/2 mile away.Like many towns, this one has laws about excessive noise, but the cops really can't do anything about.
Patrick, throwing a brick through a window and pulling back your shirt to show a fire arm is pretty severe treatment for a loud radio, not that I haven't wanted to shoot a few kids myself.

I have a friend with a jacked up 3/4 Dodge turbo diesel, with some engine mods. When some kid, usually in some lowered compact is at a stop light thumping away, he just eases up till his tailpipe is near the drivers opened window and romps on it, blowing loads of diesel exhaust/smoke into the car. Its hilarious.

Tight, I do the same thing with my '96 Cummins!!! It also works on that guy who is tailgating you or otherwise being a four-wheeled PITA.

When you hear Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys commin' up LOUD enought to dround out the Ranchera....THAT'S ME!!
Sometimes Mushroom Heads or Three Mystafa Three
ALWAYS LOUDER THAN THAT MEXICAN OMMPA MUSIC

So I guess once again I'm part of the problem rather than the solution

Profit--

I gotta say I admire ur taste in music -- I like Bob Wills myself cool --but if you want real impact--you need to get urself some Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys--their hit song: They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore is a real attention getter. grin

I vote for Bob Wills too. Pick one with lots of steel guitar and Bob yelling eehah! Or Asleep At The Wheel is another good one.

I'll have to find the Texas Jewboys. Never heard of 'em.

Times do change.....true story...1969 I actually got locked up for letting my 58 Impala (with 3duces) back off in second gear while running glass packs. Never figured that one out since the road runners etc were just as loud. Something about they were "from the factory like that...now for the music part. I think they need to throw a few of them in the slammer. I like the disel smoke deal smile maybe I'll buy another just for fun. I usually look at the stupid inconsiderate imbiciles and laugh and point... makes them wonder!! The only thing decent about the Bass sound is it beats the hell out of the high pitch they went for a few years ago. I really can't say what I want to about the NOISE they make here on the web site but a couple of you were talking in the right direction. Music? you got to be kidding. They make that sh.. because you can't find anyone with REAL TALENT any more. I'll stop here put you get my point of view...if not just ride down my road with it blasting and you will. I draw the line in my neighborhood. I had to even tell my neighbor he either shut up his continuous yelping dog or he'd find him graveyard dead one day. Enough is ENOUGH.

I recall hearing a number of years ago that Sweden was having trouble getting decent sonar operators for their navy because loud music was so popular with the kids that most of them had hearing loss by the time they were 18.
