2012 - The Eight Annual Stovebolt Reunion in Kansas City (MO)

This one started out as the others with a place holder as I gathered the info found in pockets here and there.

We do have some great photos in the Bolt Bucket for the weekend of the 2012 Reunion. And Cletis took this bunch.

We also have Bill Alderson's 2012 Project. (More on that below by Scott Ward.)


Maybe some of you would be willing to pick an image or two or three from these and explain what's happening or who's who. I see a bunch of friendly faces. Tell us a bit of what you recall from these days.


Another year for the purple! Was really easy to spot us in the crowd. In that regard, my image placement for now, is Gloria (Terry, "27capitol's" wife) waving the Stovebolt flag.

Thanks to Husker, this year we were able to do a good job of keep track of who was coming, where coming from, where staying, and all those details. Carrol was a huge help all around.

A little history, Carol had initially been helping with the Welcome Centre as a greeter of sorts. Only knowing her screen name, I recruited her via email, since Husker was very friendly and always greeting newbies in the WC. I ended up asking Husker about the name (from corn husk). So ... "interested in being a moderator for WC?" Knew a phone call was next step. It was a pleasant surprise to *hear* she's a gal (we've only had a few)! And a wrencher -- 1961 Chevy C-20 Stepside -- 1937 Chevy 1.5-Ton Dually. These are stories you need to read.

Here's a picture of Carrol from 2011 Reunion Bolt Bucket helping John and Peggy at the Stovebolt table. John was showing her how to use his camera and she did a bang up job taking pictures that year.

Back to 2012: Carol made a spread sheet, and here's a partial run down of the Bolters who reported in via the website. This is the year Bill Alderson let me show one of his trucks that I mechanically restored -- the 1966 1 ton. That is one nice truck.

We also were just finishing up another one I restored while Wayne put the body together, the 1 ton NAPCO Longhorn, very rare truck.

John and Peg pulled up just as we were setting the bed on that just arrived from the bed company. It turned out so well I think it turned out to be one of Bill's favorites.

So much so, it was his hearse the following year.

We started another project but it got mothballed since it was Bill's vision.

This reunion was an end of an era for me.

For this re-play, it'll be pretty much image-generated. I only have a few notes but lots of images in our 2012 folder.

I'll definitely need some feedback from folks who remember better.

Not real sure where we had the event this year. Doesn't look like the old familiar park.

The group ... what? On the sidewalk. Where's a truck or two or three? Finally got a shirt that wasn't purple. Although, still plenty of purple shirts in the crowd.

On the t-shirt, that was a signature line from one of the Bolters. John worked it up with the DNA strain and Mongo took a stab to make it more obvious Stovebolt.

We have another Bolt Bucket set on the Alderson's 2012 Project.

I didn't attend in 2012, but was there for the 2013 event. That is definitely the same park. I think that concrete pad where the group photo was taken is adjacent to the park restroom/support building that is closest to the flood protection wall IIRC???

This is at Riverside facing the amphitheater. Directly behind where Jim Carter sets up.

All but one show was at the Riverside park. I think the park is called E.W. Young park. The year it was flooded out, the event was relocated to the Big Red X convenience store, which is about a mile from the park. The casino is right next to the park -- Argosy Casino and Spa.

I was asked to comment on the Alderson truck project. It's a very rare truck Bill acquired years prior from an auction. It was an Independence Missouri Parks and Recreation tree spade truck. Bill won the bid but sold the spade off of it to the counter bidder.

The truck is a 1971 or 1972 1 ton dually Longhorn NAPCO 4 wheel drive conversion. It only had 9K miles on it but the frame was destroyed by the spade.

Bill found another Longhorn frame and we built it from the ground up. Bill brought the chassis / drivetrain to me to restore while Wayne rebuilt the body.

We got the bed for it the day before the show. We were putting it on when the Friday at the Aldersons event was getting started. The image before is Wayne, Troy, Kenny and I putting the bed on Bill's favorite truck just before the party as John and Peggy pulled up.

Here is the 1966 1- ton that I mechanically restored that Bill let me show at the 2012 Reunion.


Sadly Bill passed away the following year but got his final ride with his truck to the cemetery.

Okay. Back at it.

I doubt this was our first year for a clinic. We do have some pictures of Wrenchbender Ret. doing one on carburetor rebuild. (Is that right?)

I added a few of the attendees. Looks like we are still using some fancy name tags (provided by Ed "Da Oz Tinman" Hoover).

There are plenty of the truck pictures in the 2012 Bolt Bucket.

Last bit and this may round up what I have for this year, unless something else pops up.

We did have a prize toss again this year. Have lots of pictures of that. Have a big one of John here.

Now, this I can't figure out. We have several pictures of Bolters marking a truck again. This started the year Builder brought the IRWIPI truck and we all signed.

I'm wondering if this was the truck that Don King brought for a clinic. I vaguely recall that John said it wasn't a "clinic" truck --- it was more like triage truck. Too much for a day, a weekend, a year. Or something like that.

In the image, he's in a truck with writing.


And a few folks ....

Remember tis year well. Victoria couldn't go that year so I flew in. It was husker who picked me up at the airport and she and her dad took me back on Sunday morning after we attended church. Lot was gping on that year.
Seems I remember we had communicated before sine we both had 37 trucks.

Yes, Husker was always willing to help. Speaking of her trucks, she sold her trucks and now has a vintage VW bug. It's been fun to catch up with her (via email) after all these years. Have suggested she check in here to say "hey" herself.
