I finally got my blue dot taillights from Dixie Truck Depot...they took about 2 weeks to get here...but they're here and it only took me about 5 minutes to install the lenses and the new bezels. Fixin all the little electrical problems, however, took about 8 hours. I had problems with the dimmer switch, ground issues, a loose cable connection, a bad lamp...you name it, I had it. When I started, the only thing that worked was the front turn signals. Now they all work...except for the license light...and that's cuz it ain't there at all. I spose I'll have to do something about that when I put the plate bracket on.

I also spent about a week huntin for the Purple Hornie mufflers. Damned if I know where they are. So I broke down and bought a pair of 30 inch Cherry Bomb glasspacks for it. I installed those today and it's much quieter now...almost too quiet...but not quite.

This pic was taken before I'd finished hangin the mufflers...they're much more secure now.

I also took a coupla hours and updated the web pages. There's a buncha pics and verbiage about the motor bolt-ons and...well, about everything that's gone on in the last month. The updated stuff starts here

There are also links to a coupla wav files, one of the open hedders and one with the glasspacks on. They were both made with the laptop sittin on the front seat and with the same input level. So you can tell that there's quite a difference. I might only get busted for the blue dots and the Brodie knob now.

I've got the Cherry Bombs on my truck and they sound great.

I also HAD blue dots on for a year ... but then I got pulled over and had to put the plain reds back on.

In Jersey it's illegal to use any colors others than white, red and amber -- blue is for police and emergency vehicles only.

Blue dots ain't zackly legal here in Happy Valley. But neither is the Brodie knob nor the radical front end drop. Oh...and I ain't got no door mirrors. I spose I otta do something about that. Then I could see the lights flashing behind me.

sweet ChevyAsylum. I have those same yet worn out worn out mufflers on my v8. I liked the sound files of the engine running. I'll have to make sure my dad hears that, he put headers on his 235 inline 6 in his '53 - and he is wanting to use glasspacks.

asylum, loving the ride more and more everyt9ime i see it. now i'm just wondering..what're you putting out with that sucker now??? lol, HP, Torque, and manile MPG's would be nice...my dad has a 292, with stock everything, and i'm sprta curious as to what he COULD be getting outta it.

I can only guess by what it feels like. Now remember that it has bone stock cam and heads and that's gotta be restricting it a whole lot. And it's got 4.10 gears that don't do much for the mileage...and neiher does my heavy foot. However, here are some swags: HP: 180-190, torque, 225-250, mileage: 15-18.

The numbers don't mean a lot...but my seat-of-the pants feel might be more meaningful. It doesn't feel like it's being choked to death by that puny carb any more. It revs a lot faster and more freely...stand on it in 2nd and it's time to shift RIGHT NOW! I don't perceive any loss of low-end power at all. I've run up suburban hills at low rpm in 4th gear with no trouble...and it didn't feel to me like it wanted to be down-shifted.

On the freeway...well, the gears are the limitation. I don't drive it a lot faster than 65 or so. But at 55 or 60, I can punch it and feel one hell of a kick.

Remember the "Little Deuce Coupe" song? There's a line in it, "She gets rubber, babe, in all four gears." Well, that's the case with the Ratt. If I shift hard, it'll chirp the tires on power in all gears. 1st gear is a little superfluous....I can dump the clutch in 2nd and burn the tire off. I sure wish I had a posi rear end. Then it could get real exciting. Eventually, maybe.

I just came back from a run to Radio Shack...I'm havin grounding problems, so I'm gonna run ground wires to the taillights and headlights. I needed a barrier block to connect them all. Anyway, the truck ran just fine. No driveability problems, no "cantankerousness" (not like its owner) and now if I need to cross an intersection in a hurry or get out of someone's way, I don't feel like I otta hit the brakes instead of the gas: I know it's gonna be able to move.

So how do the Cherry Bombs stack up against the Thrush glass packs? Summit doesn't appear to sell glass packs. My current mufflers are WAY too quiet.

Ooops, I meant Summit doesn't sell cherry bombs.

While you are at it check to see if you have a good ground frome your engine to the chassis.Flowmaster makes some good sounding mufflers.

I got my Cherry Bombs from the local auto store.

I think Cherry Bombs and Thrush glasspacks (we used to call the Mush Thrufflers) are pretty close in sound. They're essentially the same thing. I also bought the Cherry Bombs from the FLAPS (tm LAROKE.) I think they were $23 each for 30" units.

I have two Smitty Glass Packs still in the box. No sense in wasting good mufflers when 2" straight pipes sound better

Hey Chevyasylum, I don't know if you have O'Rielly's where you are at but they can get ahold of the Purple Hornie glasspacks (special order at my local place). I think they are made by Flow-tech or something like that. I might just try a pair instead of the Cherry Bombs, which seem to be hard to find around here.

I had a pair of Magneflows installed yesterday. Dropped the 14 inch resonators (too loud!). The Magneflows sound great and if the compression were a little higher they'd sound even better.
Nice mellow raspy bark which clears once you come out of the throttle. Makes them very easy to cruise without getting a headache.
My muffler guys says he takes more Magneflows off than he installs because of a inherent drone they produce at certain rpm. If all out drag racing is your thing that's fine.
I saw a brand new looking system that he had just extracted from a Dodge. They guy couldn't stand it after 2 days.

Well, we don't have O'Rielly's around here (west of the Mississippi) but I had a set that I got from Summit. I musta given 'em to the guy who bought one of my Novas.

Hell, here in Utah, I get most of my parts from Summit. There are zero speed shops in Salt Lake City. So I get most of my stuff by mail order.

However...I'm happy with the Cherry Bombs for the moment.

I had a heck of a time gettin the blue dots to show up...mostly cuz of grounding problems. I finally mounted a ground buss barrier block in the engine compartment and ran ground wires to the taillights. That fixed 'em right up. Even made the headlights brighter when I ran a ground wire for them.

Now...if I could just get the windows to raise and lower. I'm waitin for a RH regulator from Classic (they sent me one for a 63 instead of a 64 and I'm still waitin for the replacement.) And now the LH regulator seems to have gone to hell. The crank mechanism seems to turn into a one-way clutch. I spose I better take that one out and see if I can find a fix for it. I spent 2 hours messin around with it this morning and all I got was frustrated...and covered in PBlaster.
