the engine and exhaust details:
'65 c10 - lwb stepside - 1992 5.7l(350) v8
It has a 600 cfm holley carb (mod. 4160) on it - I forgot to mention this originally (added 09/01/2004)
stock exhaust manifold, exhaust, muffler, exhuast... the pipes are separate - no cross pipe
The issue:
When I crank it up, there is some white smoke coming out the left/driver's side exhuast. It does not seem to be coming out the right/passenger's side.
Any idea what this is a symptom of?
Thanks.

If it is immediate, bad ring(s), valve guide, compression test will find the ring(s). If after it warms up, water in the combustion chamber, compression test won't find it unless it's the head gasket, that's the good news. A pressure tester on the cooling system would help. Crank the engine over & watch for water comeing out the spark plug holes. If there is you have aleaking head gasket or a cracked head. Usually a can of bar,s leak in the cooling system will fix it for a while. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. If it runs relatively smooth, add some injector cleaner additive to the gas tank and drive it enough to heat everything up. It will take a while if your truck does alot of short trips or stop and go driving. I agree. If it's a small amount of smoke (steam)and goes away after it warms up, I wouldn't give it a second thought. If it's a huge cloud and it continues after it's warmed up, then I'd start looking for ways that coolant is gettin into one or more cylinders on that side. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,895 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,895 | the '92 engine has a 600 cfm holley carb. (mod. 4160) on it... Well, I have no had to add any coolant in 6 months? or more, since I had to keep adjusting the flex hose since I could not get it to seat just right. So, it isn't using/losing coolant/water. Well, I thought I'd check with you guys. Especially since I need to yank off the intake manifold to fix that oil leak, as mentioned in another post in here - I figured I'd check to see if there is anythign else I need to check/change while I have things taken apart. Thanks. -W | | |
