Put one of the Cad motors in, that would make a better choice! Good luck, Joe. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 328 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 328 | Never, and I mean NEVER, attempt to put a Ford engine into a GMC. The GMC gods will haunt you forever! Really, the early 80s 5.0 engines are pretty weak due to smog and fuel mileage concerns of the era. If you really want a cool truck, find a GMC inline engine. As a matter of fact, you can still have a 5.0L by putting a GMC 302 inline-6 in your truck. Also, the inline-6 will have so much more torque than the short-stroked Ford V-8.

How to do it ? what to do ? any ideas ? please contact me.Hi ,well the first thing you need to do is replace the front end of it,useing something like a camaro or nova sub frame ,that will give you good ride and disc brakes, Now maybe you can find a sucker to trade that ford motor to for a sub frame ,And then drop a good CHEVY 350 in it , Now you will have a truck. Have fun Slim

I'm sure this won't be the end of it either. I might suggest a 400 small block Chevy-based engine, or a 455 Buick, Olds, or Pontiac. Yeah I know, I've heard it all about those BOP engines. But you can't beat the cubic inch displacement in a small package of one of those blocks, plus the torque is amazing. You'll approach 600 lb-ft pretty easily with a pump gas burning 455 on at least 9.5:1 compression.
I don't know why 455's were never put in pick up trucks in the 70's. They would have made an excellent truck engine.
Another really good truck engine would be a 350 tuned port engine out of a Corvette or F-body. Lots of torque for a 350, plus decent high-teens to low-20's gas mileage, depending on how it's built.

An old flathead Cadillac V-8 would be perfect!
Would this be the right time to confess I'm thinking about buying an old F-1?
