Hi there,
I live in Poland and i collect Cadillacs. I have about 50 show condition cads and now i have just bought 1941 GMC PICKUP, wchih you can see on stovebolt.com (v8 boy's pickup)

http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/jeziorski_wojtek_1941.htm

I bought a 1980 Ford Mustang with 5.0 liter enginr and auto transmition.

I thought that i can put the engine into my pickup.

I would like also to make some changes. I dream about customized pickup. I am new to hot rod thing and i need help.

How to do it ? what to do ? any ideas ? please contact me.

Since this is a Chevrolet/GMC site you are going to have a long wait for advice on putting a Ford motor into that old GMC. Put one of the Cad motors in, that would make a better choice! Good luck, Joe.

Never, and I mean NEVER, attempt to put a Ford engine into a GMC. The GMC gods will haunt you forever! Really, the early 80s 5.0 engines are pretty weak due to smog and fuel mileage concerns of the era. If you really want a cool truck, find a GMC inline engine. As a matter of fact, you can still have a 5.0L by putting a GMC 302 inline-6 in your truck. Also, the inline-6 will have so much more torque than the short-stroked Ford V-8.

Hi ,well the first thing you need to do is replace the front end of it,useing something like a camaro or nova sub frame ,that will give you good ride and disc brakes, Now maybe you can find a sucker to trade that ford motor to for a sub frame ,And then drop a good CHEVY 350 in it , Now you will have a truck. Have fun Slim

I saw that tongue lashing coming just as soon as v8boy said "Ford". I'm sure this won't be the end of it either. (lol)

if you are building the ultimet street rod/truck
you should go with a big block chevy 427-454 or if you have some mony to spend on it one of thos new 572 chevy crate engines would outrun 5.nothing Mustangs all day long

My only concern about putting a BBC into the truck is the narrow space between the frame rails. I might suggest a 400 small block Chevy-based engine, or a 455 Buick, Olds, or Pontiac.
Yeah I know, I've heard it all about those BOP engines. But you can't beat the cubic inch displacement in a small package of one of those blocks, plus the torque is amazing. You'll approach 600 lb-ft pretty easily with a pump gas burning 455 on at least 9.5:1 compression.

I don't know why 455's were never put in pick up trucks in the 70's. They would have made an excellent truck engine.

Another really good truck engine would be a 350 tuned port engine out of a Corvette or F-body. Lots of torque for a 350, plus decent high-teens to low-20's gas mileage, depending on how it's built.

Leave the 5 litre next to the trash bin where it belongs, that GMC really needs a Cadillac motor.

An old flathead Cadillac V-8 would be perfect!

Would this be the right time to confess I'm thinking about buying an old F-1?

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...
