I know that the POR 15 can be applied by brush but what about the chassis black coat. could i also apply it with a brush or should i invest in a spray gun. ive checked on previous posts but if any of you guys have any comments, suggestions please let me know.

I'm in the North East. I have a 56 3100 i'm working on. Maybe we can help each other out. I used a 1 inch brush for the frame. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 29 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 29 | I used a foam roller for the majority of my frame. I also used a brush, but used cheap for both because the brush and roller are toast after use. I thought the finish was better with the roller. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 640 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 640 | I seem to recall that POR-15 needs something over it. I mean that the regular POR-15 can't be the finish coat, because it degrades in sunlight. Is that still true? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 257 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 257 | I used POR-15 on my last truck and Zero Rust on my present truck. I used the cheap foam brushes for both because as mentioned before, the brushes are toast after one use. I had a couple different sizes on hand for those tough to reach spots and the wider (1 or 1-1/2") brushes for those wide-open-road-cruising spots, like the outside of the frame.
The directions call for two coats of POR-15/ZR and then a top coat. I only put the top coat (spray can gloss black) on places that would see the light of day. When I sold the other truck 4 years later, it still looked as good as the day I finished it.
After completing my present truck frame, I found that the POR-15 smoothed out better than the ZR after being brushed on. The benefit of ZR is it comes in spray cans. On the next truck (don't tell my wife there's going to be another one), I'll use ZR again but only in the spray can. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 629 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 629 | i used zero rust and could not be happier. check out thephotos on my web page.
