ok guys so im having the chassis sandblasted and i just got a quart of POR 15 and a quart of chassis black coat also from POR 15. I know that the POR 15 can be applied by brush but what about the chassis black coat. could i also apply it with a brush or should i invest in a spray gun. ive checked on previous posts but if any of you guys have any comments, suggestions please let me know.

thanks in advance

Anchondo, where in el paso are you??? I'm in the North East. I have a 56 3100 i'm working on. Maybe we can help each other out. I used a 1 inch brush for the frame.

I used a foam roller for the majority of my frame. I also used a brush, but used cheap for both because the brush and roller are toast after use. I thought the finish was better with the roller.

I seem to recall that POR-15 needs something over it. I mean that the regular POR-15 can't be the finish coat, because it degrades in sunlight. Is that still true?

I used POR-15 on my last truck and Zero Rust on my present truck. I used the cheap foam brushes for both because as mentioned before, the brushes are toast after one use. I had a couple different sizes on hand for those tough to reach spots and the wider (1 or 1-1/2") brushes for those wide-open-road-cruising spots, like the outside of the frame.

The directions call for two coats of POR-15/ZR and then a top coat. I only put the top coat (spray can gloss black) on places that would see the light of day. When I sold the other truck 4 years later, it still looked as good as the day I finished it.

After completing my present truck frame, I found that the POR-15 smoothed out better than the ZR after being brushed on. The benefit of ZR is it comes in spray cans. On the next truck (don't tell my wife there's going to be another one), I'll use ZR again but only in the spray can.

Just used Zero Rust on the insides of my '50 back fenders, looks great, sprayed it on with an HVLP gun
